Composition

Artist Bill Hutson, right, curator Mary Anne Rose, and Foundation director Anita Shapolsky with Hutson's "Composition," created in 1960, one of his first mixed abstract mixed media pieces. "I was wearing a raincoat and I accidentally leaned against the painting," Hutson said. "The paint went all over the sleeve of the raincoat - and I like the way it looked. So, I cut it out and pasted it to the canvas. Hutson is on the faculty of Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster. Photo was taken at the African American Abstract Masters exhibit at the Anita Shapolsky Art Foundation in Jim Thorpe. The exhibit runs from August 28 through October 18.
