Jim Thorpe team wins Carbon Academic meet

For the sixth consecutive year, Jim Thorpe Area High School won the Carbon County Academic Meet held at Weatherly Area High School.

Each of the public high schools from Carbon - Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Palmerton, Panther Valley, Weatherly, along with Marian Catholic High School brought four team members and two alternates.The judges for the meet were from the Carbon Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR).Speaker of the House Keith McCall was the quizmaster for the Championship Round, also for the sixth year in a row."It's rewarding to watch the kids from the various schools compete and to see their academic prowess," McCall stated. "There are some very very difficult questions and these kids know the answers. I'm very proud of the fact that they come here and compete as it really speaks to the education that they get at our local schools."This year there was a special trophy given to McCall in appreciation of his support of the academic competition among the schools in Carbon County.The winning team took home the trophy provided by the Carbon Chapter PASR. The winning school's name and date will be engraved on the trophy, which will remain at the winning school until next year's competition.
