Meters should take extra quarters

Dear Editor:

A friend recently was fined $20 for parking at a meter about 15- 20 minutes past the 2 hour limit. Immediately upon discovering the ticket, we went to the Lehighton Municipal building to attend to this matter. My friend explained, with ticket in hand, she tried to extend the 2 hour limit by inserting more quarters.A 2 hour limit doesn't handle every parking ( at a meter) situation.I think this person, being a good law abiding citizen, should have received a warning. This being her very first offense.Upon going to the Municipal building, we noticed litter, in the nice Lehighton lower park. How about imposing a fine on that?It seems to me a meter taking quarters only, doesn't suit every motorist parking at a meter. People who don't have a quarter probably drive away, or don't place any money in the meter. Why not dimes, etc.?One woman, who works on First Street, said she doesn't put money in the meter, while she works, and never received a ticket.Could there be favoritism? In retrospect, maybe we should have taped extra quarters to the meter?Respectfully,Joanne ShanoskyMahoning Township
