Two persons escaped serious injury Thursday night when involved in a violent one-car crash along Route 443 in West Penn Township. The crash occurred near 10:30 p.m. as a car was traveling west climbing the Clamtown Hill. The driver, a male, for some unknown reason lost control of the unit, swerved to the right and entered the berm, taking down approximately 150 feet of steel guiderails. The unit came to rest on its wheels in the slow speed west bound lane. He and his passenger, his mother, were injured in the incident. West Penn Township Chief of Police Brian Johnson reported the pair live along South Tamaqua Drive in the township. Responding was the West Penn Fire Company No. 1 and the Tamaqua ambulance. West Penn fire police maintained traffic control at the scene.
