A Tower City man, who pleaded guilty to 118 counts of animal cruelty, was barred by a Schuylkill County judge from ownership, possession, custody or control of any animal for 10 years.

Andy Joseph Oxenrider, 38, of 352 Dietrich Ave., entered guilty pleas to the charges and was sentenced by Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin on Wednesday. He was given credit for having spent 111 days in the county prison and was granted immediate parole.He was placed on probation for 23 months, barred for 10 years of having animals, make restitution of $1,747 to the Bethlehem Regional Lab for drug tests, although the court dismissed 10 charges of possesssion of a controlled substance.He pleaded guilty to one charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and was placed on probation for 12 months, but it runs concurrent to the other charges. He was ordered to pay fines totaling $800 on the cruelty to animals charge, pay a $50 monthly supervision fee and perform 50 hours of community service.Oxenrider was arrested last Jan. 24 at 33 Wilmer Lane, Pine Grove, by Officer Jeffrey Futchko, Pine Grove police, who reported Oxenrider deprived 70 plus animals proper care, nutrition and shelter.Other pleasSix other people entered guilty pleas to criminal charges and were sentenced by Judge Dolbin as follows:Leon Franklin Pawelski, 49, Port Clinton, on two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, was sentenced to serve two to four years in a state corrrectional facility, pay $200 to the SAE fund, $100 to the CJEA fund, $400 to the Schuylkill County Drug Task Force, a $50 monthly supervision fee and make restitution of $113 to the Bethlehem Regional Lab. He was cited near Deer Lake.John Samuel Schropp, 31, Camp Hill, on a charge of delivery of a controlled substance was sentenced to serve one to two years in a state correctional facilty, pay a fine of $100, pay $100 to the SAE fund, $50 to the CJEA fund, $100 to the Schuylkill County Drug Task Force and make restitution of $113 to the Bethlehem Regional Lab.On a second charge of possession of a controlled substance he was placed on probation for 12 months - which runs concurrent to the first sentence - and pay $100 to the SAE fund. On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, he was also given a concurrent 12 months probation sentence.On a third count of possession of a controlled substance and second count of possession of drug paraphernalia, he was placed on probation to run concurrent, pay $50 to the CJEA fund and make restituition of $113 to the Bethlehem Regional Lab. He was cited in Shenandoah Heights.William James Steffen, 46, Ringtown, on a charge of burglary of a home at 2621 Melanie Drive, Ringtown, was sentenced to serve 11 to 22 months in a state correctional facilty. On three counts of passing bad checks he was sentenced on each charge to serve 12 months probation under supervision of the Schuylkill County Probation Department.He was also ordered to pay $150 to the CJEA fund, a $50 monthly supervision fee and make restitution of $75 to Brad Rickert, Sunbury Road, Barry Township; $1,110 to Jerry Enders, of Northeast Auto Sales, SR61, North Manheim Township; and $310.89 to Pet Brothers Inc., Ringtown.Ervin Charles Washington, 24, Pine Grove, on a charge of simple assault on Timothy Gehres, Pine Grove, was sentenced to serve six to 23 months in a state correctional institution, pay $50 to the CJEA fund and make restitution of $2,495.60 to Healthcare Recoveries and have no contact with the victim or his family. On a charge of harassment he was fined $200 and costs.Dean Strohecker Jr., 46, Branchdale, on a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) was sentenced to serve 15 months to five years in the county prison with the sentence to run concurrent with a sentence now serving in Dauphin County prison, pay a fine of $2,500, pay $300 to the SAE fund, $50 to the CJEA fund, $200 to the Catastrophe fund, and make restitution of $113 to Bethlehem Regional Lab. His license is also suspended for 18 months.On a charge of driving while his license was suspended, he was fined $500 and serve 90 days in prison concurrent to the DUI sentence. On charges of driving an unregistered vehicle, he was fined $75; on disregarding a traffic lane and turn signals, he was fined $25 each plus costs. Strohecker was cited in Hegins Township.Ronald Keith Shaup, 31, Schuylkill Haven, on a charge of disorderly conduct was placed on probation for 12 months, must pay $50 to the CJEA fund and $50 monthly supervision fee. On a charge of public drunkenness, he was fined $100 and costs. He was cited in Schuylkill Haven.
