Shannon King of Philadelphia, daughter of Mary Ellen King, graduated from Cabrini College with a master's degree in Education. Commencement exercises were held May 16. A graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, she earned a bachelor's degree from Penn State University and is employed by the Coatesville Area School District.

King is the granddaughter of Mary Wychulis of Tamaqua and the late Carl Wychulis and Nicholas and Nancy King of Coaldale.

Robert "Jake" Long, son of Robert Long of Tamaqua and the late Deborah Millet Long, graduated from the University of Florida, Gainesville, with a bachelor of science degree in History, with a minor in Business Administration. Commencement exercises were held May 8. A graduate of Tamaqua High School, he is the grandson of George and Lois Millet, Ruth Long and the late William Long, all of Tamaqua.

Long, his wife, the former Jennie DeMambro, and their daughter, Harper Jane, live in Gainesville, FL.

Seaman Apprentice Joseph M. Zalek, Jr, a 2007 graduate of Pleasant Valley High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Zalek completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Cedar Crest College has announced its spring 2010 dean's list. This academic honor is reserved for students who earn at least a 3.65 grade-point average on a 4-point scale. Local students who achieved dean's list status for the spring semester include:

Mariana Zahora, daughter of Bill and Gail Zahora of West Penn Township, was one of 581 students to graduate from the University of New Haven, West Haven, Conn., during the 87 commencement exercises, held May 16. A cum laude graduate, she received a bachelor of science degree from the university's college of business in the field of Accounting.

Christa Vrabel, daughter of Andrew and Michele Vrabel of Lehighton, graduated cum laude from Lebanon Valley College in May 2010. While at LVC, Christa double majored, earning a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice and one in Spanish.

While completing these degrees, Christa studied abroad for a semester in Valladolid, Spain.

She has also been a member of the Sociology and Criminal Justice and the Spanish clubs, where she served as the vice president in her junior year. She was also a member of the LVC volleyball team.

Silberline Manufacturing Co., Inc., the global supplier of effect pigments with its Corporate Headquarters in Tamaqua, announced that Dr. Sean Zhou recently joined the firm asProduct Development Manager forPlastics. Dr. Zhou holds a Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Akron, Ohio. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, from the Anshan Institute of Iron and Steel Technology, Anshan, China. Dr. Zhou and his family currently reside in Collegeville.

Jonathan E. Snyder, son of Edward "Skip" and Sandy Snyder of Weatherly, graduated summa cum laude from Lock Haven University during the 133rd commencement exercises held on May 7, at the university's Thomas Fieldhouse.

Snyder earned a bachelor of science degree in sport administration with a minor in media administration.

At a ceremony held earlier in the month, he received the Sport Administration Outstanding Field Experience award.

Andrew Hunadi has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2010 semester at King's College, Wilkes-Barre. He is enrolled in the physician assistant program.

Hunadi is a 2007 graduate of Palmerton Area High School and is employed as an EMT with the Palmerton Community Ambulance. He is also an active volunteer with the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company.

Hunadi is the son of Gregory and Carol Hunadi of Bowmanstown and the grandson of Walter and Rosaline Spack of Bowmanstown and of the late Andrew and Eleanore Hunadi of Nesquehoning.
