The Panther Valley Middle School has announced the January Students of the Month. Sixth grade winner is Christopher Santore, seventh grade is Samuel Stanko, and eighth grade is Abbegail Whildin. Each received a gift card and certificate from the school.

Sherry Sernak, principal, of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School, Lehighton, has announced the names of the students who have qualified for the Honor Roll in the second marking period of the 2010-2011 school year.

Attaining the Principal's List, with grades 95 or above in all major subjects and an S or above in all other subjects and conduct were: Katherine Aaron, Megan Aaron, Jason Bauder, Zoe David, Ryan Drazek, Casey Hanley, Hailey Hoffman, Katelyn Hosler, Amy McConnell, Elliott Roberti, Lindsay Rohlfing, Benjamin Slaw and Kaia Slaw.

Ben Stermer, son of Rob and SueStermer of Jim Thorpe has been named to the dean's list at Delaware Valley College for the fall semester.

Stermer is majoring in environmental science and is a 2010 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School.

Nickolas Tessitore Samoleski, Albrightsville, graduated May 14, 2010 from Penn State University with a bachelor of science degree in (ME) mechanical engineering.

Nickolas attended the University (main) campus for four years. While there, he was on the dean's list and was a member of Thon (fundraiser for pediatric cancer), American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Lions Performance Auto Club, Relay for Life 5K Runs and Engineers without Border clubs.

Jordyn Beth Miller, a freshman at Wilkes University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering, has been named to Dean's List for the Fall semester. Miller, a 2010 graduate of Lehighton Area High School, is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success at the University. She is also involved in the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) and the Engineering Olympics (which are held on the Wilkes University campus.) In addition, Miller is a WEBS (Women Empowered by Science) counselor, helping to instruct demonstrations.

Erin Darragh of Orefield has made the Honors List for Franklin & Marshall College's fall 2010 semester.

Erin is the daughter of Dennis and Susan Darragh, Orefield, and is a graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High.

A student earns Honors List recognition for achieving a 3.7 or better grade point average, and dean's list recognition for achieving a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Kathleen Bonner, daughter of Brian and Roxanne Bonner of Lake Hauto, has been named to the Dean's List for the 2010 Fall Semester at Penn State University, University Park campus. Kathleen is currently a sophomore and will enter Penn State's Smeal College of Business in Fall 2011 and major in Finance. At Penn State Kathleen is a member of the Chi Omega sorority and actively involved in THON, the largest student run philanthropy in the world. She is a 2009 graduate of Panther Valley High School. Paternal grandparents are Eileen (Elly) Bonner of Nesquehoning and the late Vincent Bonner.

Brent and Brittany Homcha of Nesquehoning were recently notified by their respective colleges that they have attained the dean's list for the fall 2010 semester.

Brent attends the Pennsylvania State University at University Park. He is a junior majoring in mechanical engineering and is a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. He is very active in the Penn State Dance Marathon, THON, which raised $7.8 million in 2010 for the fight against childhood cancer. He also participates in numerous intramural sports.

Christian Ferko of Jim Thorpe has completed his first semester at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Christian is a 2010 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School, which he was valedictorian of his class.

Because of the college credits Christian earned during his senior year in high school, MIT has awarded him advanced sophomore standing during the first semester of his freshman year.

Advanced sophomore standing grants Christian more opportunities during his freshman year, one of which is to declare a major subject of study.
