Eric R. Swankoski, son of Ray and Patty Swankoski, Coaldale, and grandson of Peggy and the late Joseph Rebarchak Hollywood and Irene and the late Raymond Swankoski Hazleton, has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2013 semester with a 3.68 grade point average at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, N.J.

A 2013 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Eric is majoring in Hotel and Hospitality Management and is a member of the Fairleigh Dickinson University Football and Golf team.

Coast Guard Seaman Karli I. Thomas graduated from the United States Coast Guard Training Center at Cape May, N.J. on Aug. 9. She is the daughter of Jeff and Renee Thomas of Jim Thorpe. She is a 2006 graduate of Marian Catholic High School.

She is third generation Coast Guard having followed in the footsteps of her grandfather, Cletus W. Milan and her uncle, Cletus A. Milan who is currently serving in the USCG.

Laura Walser, of Tamaqua,was among 24 members of the Susquehanna University community who participated in the university's SU CASA (Susquehanna University Central America Service Adventure) annual service-learning trip.

The trip took place from Dec. 29 to Jan. 12.

Program participants contributed in various ways to the communities they visited.

While staying in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, they were divided into three teams: vacation Bible school, construction and medical.

Lock Haven University has announced students in the TIMES NEWS coverage area who achieved dean's list recognition for the fall 2013 semester. These students have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 in a scale from 0 to 4.0 in a 12 hours of letter grades schedule.

Army Pfc. Thomas White has graduated from One Station Unit Training at the U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consisted of basic military training and advanced individual training.

During basic training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremonies, military customs and courtesies, map reading, tactics, basic rifle marksmanship, physical fitness, field training, and first aid skills. The recruit developed combat skills and handled various weapons available to the infantry soldier.

Marlena Schnyder, of Slatington, earned a bachelor of arts degree in creative writing with a minor in English and art history from Susquehanna University in December.

Schnyder is the daughter of Troy and Sharon Schnyder.

Amy Yusella has been named to the dean's list at DeSales University for the fall 2013 semester. She is a sophomore psychology major.

A 2012 graduate of Panther Valley High School, Amy is the daughter of David and Debbie Yusella of Summit Hill, and the granddaughter of Peter and MaryAnn Yusella of Summit Hill and Anthony and Gloria Sebelin of Bozeman, Mont.

Madison Monaco, daughter of Elena Monaco and the late Jeff Monaco of Nesquehoning, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at King's College, Wilkes-Barre.

She is the granddaughter of Frank and Marie Damian of Nesquehoning. Madison is a 2012 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Tamaqua and is majoring in accounting.

Lynn Davies, daughter of Jon and Debbie Davies of Tuscarora, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Towson University in Maryland.

The 2009 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School is in the final year of a five-year master's degree program in occupational therapy.

The granddaughter of Betty Davies and Gwen Evans, both of Tamaqua, earned a 4.0 grade point average.
