Kaitlin Maloney, a jurisdoctorate candidate, has been named to the spring 2014 dean's list at the Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Delaware.

Maloney serves as the community service chairwoman for the George Read chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International and is active in the Widener Women's Law Caucus. She completed an internship at the Delaware Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General this summer.

Maloney has been selected to be on the staff of Widener's Delaware Journal of Corporate Law.

Patrick Martino of Jim Thorpe graduated in June with a master of science degree in organic chemistry from the University of Oregon, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

As part of the program, Martino worked as a research and development chemist intern at W.R. Grace in Albany, Oregon, for nine months. He spent most of his time working on pharmaceutical intermediates, as well as polyolefination catalysts.

Martino has accepted a full-time laboratory director position in the chemistry department at Bucknell University.

Col. Brian Sneddon, son-in-law of Jane Springer of Tamaqua, retired from the United States Army after 27 years of military service in a ceremony held at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Sneddon, a graduate of East Stroudsburg University, entered active duty in 1987 with a Reserve Officer Training Corps Commission in the Infantry. He served as a platoon leader in the 24th Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia, where he was deployed to Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

Haley Gower of Lehighton has been named to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Academy of Culinary Arts dean's recognition list for academic excellence for the spring 2014 semester.

She is in the culinary arts program.

The academy, located in Punxsutawney, is one of only 112 programs in the United States fully accredited by the American Culinary Federation, the maximum accreditation possible for culinary programs in the United States.

Courtney Getz, daughter of Rick and Yvette Getz of Palmerton, was named to the dean's list with a 3.9 GPA for the both semesters at West Chester University. She is majoring in biology with a concentration in medical technology and minoring in health science and chemistry.

She is a 2013 graduate of Palmerton Area High School.

Christian Ferko of Jim Thorpe graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on June 6. He was awarded bachelor of science degrees in physics and mathematics.

Christian was chosen for induction into Phi Beta Kappa, an honor society formed in 1776, that celebrates and advocates excellence in the arts and sciences. He was also inducted into Sigma Pi Sigma, an honor society founded in 1921, to honor outstanding scholarship in physics, and is the official honor society of the physics profession.

While at MIT, Christian maintained a cumulative GPA of 4.9.

Stephanie N. Gursky graduated from Penn State University on May 11. She is a graduate of the College of Education with a 3.77 GPA.

She is the daughter of Randy Gursky of Palmerton and Tracey Gursky of Lehighton, and the granddaughter of Dorothy Arnold of Walnutport and the late Walter and Rose Gursky.

She will be teaching in Alaska in the upcoming school year.

Jenna M. Dumansky of Lehighton has been named to the dean's list at Lackawanna College in Scranton.

Lackawanna College has recognized more than 260 students named to its dean's list for academic excellence during the spring 2014 semester.

A student qualifies for the dean's list if they achieve a grade-point average of 3.2 with a minimum of nine credit hours to qualify.
