Andrew Tucker of Lansford graduated with honors on Dec. 14 from Misericordia University in Dallas. He graduated cum laude with a 3.68 GPA, receiving his bachelor of health science degree, with a minor in health care management.

While at Misericordia Andrew was a member of the track and field team. In 2011 and 2012 he qualified and competed in the MAC Finals in the hammer throw.

He will continue his graduate school work at Misericordia where he will begin study in their doctorate of physical therapy program.

Army National Guard Pvt. William J. Kattner has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship qualification, bayonet combat, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, marches, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history, traditions and core values.

Kattner is a 2006 graduate of Carbon Career & Technical Institute, Jim Thorpe.

Two local students were among those who recently graduated in the first class from the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Misericordia University in Dallas. They are Emily Getz, Kunkletown, and Ashlee Zeigler, Weatherly.

The third annual winter commencement ceremony took place in the Anderson Sports and Health Center on campus.

Shannon Sarosky, daughter of John and Susan Sarosky, Weatherly, has been named Senior of the Month for November at Weatherly Area High School.

Shannon is the co-captain of the girls' volleyball team, the president of the yearbook committee, and secretary of the Weatherly Area High School's chapter of the National Honor Society. She is also involved in dual enrollment courses, Hazleton Junior Leadership, and the Hazleton CAN-DO Student board of directors.

Dominique Adamczyk, daughter of Leann and Brian Miller, Weatherly, and the late Michael Adamczyk, has been named Senior of the Month for October at Weatherly Area High School.

Dominique has lettered in girls' varsity basketball and softball, and is a member of the Weatherly Area High School's chapter of the National Honor Society. She is involved in yearbook, SPARC, Teens Against Tobacco Use, and dual enrollment courses.

Scott M. Nietz of Coaldale was elected to the Albright College 2013 Homecoming Court, which consisted to five senior women and five senior men, including the king and queen.

Nietz is a senior art/music business major. He is a graduate of Marian Catholic High School.

Albright College is located in Reading.

DALLAS, Pa. - Faculty members and their students in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Misericordia University have been accepted to present their collaborative research projects at the 16th International Congress of the World Federation of Occupational Therapy in Yokohama, Japan in June.

Lalit Shah, Ed.D., O.T.R./L., professor of occupational therapy, and several students will make a poster-based presentation based upon their research, "Life Balance: A Comparative Study of Retired and Working Occupational Therapists."

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Eric J. McFadden graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Army National Guard Pvt. Alex J. Vincent has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the Vincent studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
