Melissa Finney has been named to the dean's list at Millersville University for the 2009 fall semester. She will graduate in May 2010 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She is the daughter of Cindy and Richard Finney and the granddaughter of Edward and Grace Finney of Lehighton.

Army National Guard Spec. Daniel C. Murray is returning to the U.S. after a deployment to Iraqi or Afghanistan in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom, respectively.

The soldiers return to Fort Dix, N.J. for debriefing, evaluations and out-processing procedures before returning to their regularly assigned Army Reserve or National Guard units.

Murray is a wheeled vehicle mechanic with the 628th Aviation Support Battalion, based in Annville. The specialist has served in the military for six years.

Victoria Berger, daughter of Kerry and Alice Berger of Lehighton, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Penn State University.

She is a 2009 graduate of Lehighton Area High School and is currently majoring in environmental systems engineering.

Berger is also the granddaughter of Andrew and Irene Homyak of Lehighton, and the late George and Louise Berger.

Amanda Blum, daughter of Patti Jo and the late Ronald Blum of Jim Thorpe, has been named to the dean's list for the 2009 fall semester at Cedar Crest College, Allentown.

A 2007 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School, Blum earned a 3.85 grade point average, in secondary education and american history.

Blum is employed at Cedar Crest College in the printing services department.

Courtney McCarroll, daughter of Clem and Pam McCarroll of Tamaqua, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Kutztown University, earning a 4.0 grade point average.

A senior student, she has earned dean's list status every semester since enrolling for her freshman year.

While at Kutztown, she has been active with the "Shoofly" literary magazine, Sigma Tau Delta, the Kutztown English Club and has taken Alternative Spring Breaks to work with the Nehemiah Mission in Cleveland, Ohio; and Habitat For Humanity.

Amanda Lentz was named to the dean's list for the Fall 2009 term at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va.

She is the daughter of Jill Lentz of Abington and Scott Lentz of Catasauqua. Amanda attained a 3.4 grade point average and is a senior at the university.

She is majoring in Fashion Design and Fashion Illustration. She will graduate in May and plans to be a Theater Costume Designer and travel to Asia. She has been busy designing purses for a charitable organization without charging them.

Steven Behr, Principal of the Tamaqua Area School District´s elementary schools, has released the names of students earning honor roll status for the second marking period of the 2009-2010 school year.

To be eligible for High Honors, students must earn straight As.

To earn honors, students in grades four through six must earn four As and two Bs, while third grade students must earn three As and one B.
