Pleasant Valley Bible classes
The Pleasant Valley Bible Classes have started at the Cornerstone Community Church from 1:30-2:25 p.m. and from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 and will continue until May 2014, for the Pleasant Valley Elementary, Polk and the Pleasant Valley Intermediate students each Friday that school is in session. Permission slips are available at the school offices
The Polk Township tree lighting ceremony was cancelled due to the weather, and as of this date, has not been rescheduled.

The West End Parks & Open Space meeting will take place at 7 p.m., this evening at Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville.
The Pleasant Valley Middle School PAC/PTO will meet at 2 p.m., Thursday.
Pride in Chestnuthill will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building in Brodheadsville.

St. Matthew's UCC
St. Matthew's UCC will have a live Nativity at their Journey to Bethlehem on Sunday, Dec. 14. There will be tours that start at 6:30 p.m. Each walking tour lasts about 15 minutes. When your tour is completed, you may visit the social hall for hot chocolate and cookies. Then at 7:30 p.m. there will be a Christmas cantata, with the combined choirs of St. Matthew's and Effort UMC.
The only cost is a donation of a nonperishable food item.

Safe Haven Pet Rescue will have a volunteer meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Cherry's Family Restaurant, Route 209 near Route 534, Kresgeville. Volunteers are needed for adoption days, dog transport to veterinary and grooming appointments, fundraising, clerical help, home visits and more. Foster homes are needed in order to save more dogs. If you are interested in volunteering or fostering, come to the meeting or visit the website.

Cramer Brothers benefit concert
The Cramer Brothers Band will be giving a free country gospel Christmas Concert at St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown at 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 1. A free will offering will be taken to benefit the church's building fund. Bring a nonperishable food item for PVEN.

Tree lighting ceremony
The 2013 Tree Lighting will take place at 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Kresgeville Veterans Memorial, located across from the Kresgeville Post Office on Route 209. There will be a sing-a-long and Santa will arrive. After the ceremony, refreshments will be served. Parking will be available in the post office parking lot, or at Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Eldred tree lighting
There will be an Eldred Township tree lighting ceremony at the Eldred Township municipal building at 6 p.m. Sunday. Bring an ornament to hang on the tree. There will be caroling and cookies and hot chocolate served afterward. New unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots drive will be accepted.

The Body Shop Training Center in Brodheadsville is offering people the opportunity to try a class in exchange for a nonperishable food item to benefit Effort United Methodist Church's food pantry. The event will take place at 120 Shafer Lane, Brodheadsville, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday.
A healthy recipes, body fat analysis will take place at 10 a.m.
