Rotary speaker

The West End Rotary Club will host Doug Harbach, director of communications of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board when it hosts its breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

Zion Seniors

The June meeting of the Zion Seniors is 11 a.m. Thursday. Sandwiches should be brought. Beverages are provided.

Monroe Seniors meet at Zion twice a week, Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning at 9 a.m. Programs are varied as are the lunches that are served for minimal cost.

Vacation

Bible School

St. Matthew's UCC will be holding Vacation Bible School from 9-11:30 a.m., the week of July 14-18 in the church grove.

Children between the ages of 4-12 will be sailing along to learn about Jesus' ministry on and around the shores of Galilee. Forewarning: they may get a little wet each day.

School board to meet

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday, in the district's administrative building.

Library activities

This Saturday, Flag Day, the Western Pocono Community Library will offer Family Fun Day at 10:30 a.m. and at 1 p.m., the Saturday matinee, "12 Years a Slave," which is rated R. For more information call the library at 570-992-7934.

St. Matthew's

Sunday, June 8 is Pentecost Sunday and St. Matthew's UCC confirmation class will be confirmed at the 9 a.m. worship service. There will be a reception immediately afterward in the social hall.

At noon there will be an alternative worship service with country/gospel music by "The Path" band. Dress casual.

Donations and cars

St. Matthew's needs donations of sugar, Carnation Evaporated Milk and whole milk to make homemade ice cream for the Strawberry Festival and Car Show on June 15.

Feast of the

Ascension

Our Lady Queen of Peace offers several Mass times for the Feast of the Ascension, a Holy Day of Obligation.

Mass will be offered at 5 p.m. Wednesday, and at 8 a.m., 12:10 and 7 p.m. Thursday.

PVI Field Day

Beginning today, weather permitting, Pleasant Valley Intermediate School is having field days, by grade. Fourth grade is set for today, followed by fifth Thursday and sixth Friday.

Rain dates are next week, in the same order.

The Pleasant Valley High School Spring Choral concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Effort blood drive

An American Red Cross blood drive will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. May 29 at Effort UMC. Call 800-RED-CROSS to schedule an appointment.

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PTO will meet at 4:30 p.m. today. The election will take place in the library.

It's election time also for the Pleasant Valley Elementary School PTO. That will take place at the PTO meeting set for 7 p.m., May 20.

St. Matthew's UCC

St. Matthew's UCC will hold its regular worship service at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 11. They will celebrate mothers.

Sunday School is at 10:30 a.m. for every age.

Then at noon there will be a contemporary service with country/gospel music and communion will be served.
