Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company.

Bring a bag lunch. They will have a speaker from the Vision Loss Center and play bingo.

Harvest Home

Sunday is Harvest Home at St. Matthew's UCC. There will be a special celebration at the 9 a.m. worship service.

Altar & Rosary

The Altar & Rosary Society of Our Lady Queen of Peace will meet in McCawley Hall at 6:30 p.m. today. Women of the parish are welcome to join the group.

Zion's Seniors

The Senior Citizen's Group at Zion Lutheran will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday. This group is for anyone age 50 and older.

Participants are reminded to bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided.

St. Matthew's UCC

St. Matthew's UCC will have two worship services on Sunday, conducted by the Rev. Suzanne Brooks-Cope, pastor.

This Sunday, the regular worship service is at 9 a.m. and will be held in the picnic grove (weather permitting) with the members of the youth Camp Grove leading the worship service.

Sunday School for all ages is at 10:30 a.m.

Then at noon it is The Family Table. This relaxed casual service features Randy Cramer and The Path band and singers and country music. Dress is casual. Communion will be served.

Garden of Giving

The Garden of Giving is looking forward to the United Way Day of Caring, a one-day event for the community to come together to provide hands-on services to the United Way, its partners, and other local nonprofits, which will take place on Thursday.

At the end of the day a thank-you picnic will be held at Barley Creek Brewing Company in Tannersville for all who participate. For more information go to www.unitedwaymonroe.org/day-caring-0.

Sunday School

Sunday school at St. Matthew's UCC begins at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. There are classes for every age from 3 through adult.

Calling all youth

St. Matthew's UCC will hold Camp Grove in the picnic grove the weekend of Sept. 12-14 for middle school through high school age. It will be a weekend of fun, games, campfires and worship.

The weekend will culminate in the Sunday morning worship service being held in the grove (weather permitting) and conducted by the youth. If interested, contact the Rev. Suzanne Brooks-Cope, pastor, at 610-381-2442.

Church celebrates anniversary

McMichaels UMC is celebrating its 125th anniversary. Bishop Peggy A. Johnson, the United Methodist Bishop for the Northeastern Methodist District, will be visiting and presenting the children's sermon and adult sermon at the 9:30 a.m. service on Sunday. Holy Communion will be served by the bishop and the Rev. Ron Schane, who is escorting her. Coffee and doughnuts will be served after the worship.

Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is in need of school supplies, school clothes (especially uniforms), new socks (adult size) and new packaged underwear for boys and girls, all sizes.

They also need macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, cereal and all nonperishable food items.

Free backpack

The Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, just off Weir Lake Road, will hold a free back-to-school event from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6. The first 100 children will get a free backpack filled with school supplies.

Garden of Giving

The Garden of Giving in McMichaels is producing a bounty of crops, including fresh organic garlic, onions, cucumbers, green and fryer peppers, eggplant, parsley, basil, and also eggs. The fall crop will be ready for harvesting at the end of September through the fall.
