Three consecrated

Effort UMC 's Pastor Robin Fisher consecrated three adult volunteers this past Sunday.

Karen D'arcy was consecrated as the new food pantry director at the church, replacing Mark Baylis. She has volunteered at the pantry since its inception, about 10 years ago.

Joining her in administrative leadership, also from the ranks of volunteers, is Anne Marie Klemm as assistant director. Klemm has about four years experience, says D'arcy

The third volunteer, Deborah Audett, will serve as Vacation Bible School director.

Free Yoga class

A free yoga class will be conducted on Wednesday, June 8 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The class will be held in St. Matthew's UCC's picnic grove in Kunkletown. This will begin an eight-week class. On Sunday, June 5, there will be Church Music Sunday with Holy Baptism and Celebration of Pastor Deb Scheffey's 25th Anniversary of Ordination. Come and join Pastor Scheffey in her celebration. Service will be at 10:30 a.m.

Disaster relief

Zion United Lutheran Church of Brodheadsville has a disaster response team named Mission Possible. The group is in its 15th year.

The first trip was to Moorhead, MN and Fargo, ND in 1997. Each year since then Mission Possible has gone someplace in the U.S. to assist in rebuilding homes damaged from a natural disaster.

Memorial Day

Observance

Everyone is invited to attend a Memorial Day Observance at Eldred Township's Veteran's Memorial on Monday, May 30 at 11 a.m.

St. Matthew's cemetery

The St. Matthew's UCC cemetery committee asks that during the summer months no one put any flower pots or baskets on a grave site. It makes it hard for the mowing crew to mow and keep the cemetery neat. Only items able to go on the tombstone are allowed.

Polk PTO Meeting

Polk Elementary School will have a PTO Meeting on Thursday, May 26 at 4 p.m. Parents of Polk students are invited to come and share their ideas. Baby-sitting is available.

Pleasant Valley Intermediate School

PVI will be having a 6th grade Chorus Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria on Tuesday, May 31. All are welcome to attend.

Road cleanup

Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC) will have another roadside cleanup day May 28, weather permitting. Check with Chestnuthill Township at (570) 992-7247 for other dates and times.

Members of the community are welcome to join the group and help keep the township clean and green.

Help is needed as PIC is a small volunteer group made up mostly of senior citizens, who have been cleaning up and beautifying the township for over 10 years.

Chorus Concert

Pleasant Valley High School will present its chorus concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 28.

Historical society

The Eldred Township Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, May 24 at 7 p.m. at the Eldred Township municipal building in Kunkletown. Gail Boscia will be giving a presentation on Victorian lace. All are welcome to attend.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will be meeting on Thursday, May 26 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company. Bring a bag lunch and a dessert for the Chinese auction. Seniors are welcome to join the fun and socializing.

A Community Call for Help

A sense of community in today's economy is essential, in that there are many families going hungry. Salem United Church of Christ, Route 209 and Gilbert Road, Gilbert, has provided West End Missions the facilities to provide meals twice a week for the hungry.

New Bible study

McMichaels United Methodist Church, Route 715 and White Church Road, McMichaels, is offering a new Bible study.
