Pleasant Valley schools

For any information concerning the Pleasant Valley School District, please visit www.pvbears.org. The school district offices are located on the Route 115 side of the campus, attached to the PV Middle School. The main number to the school is (570) 402-1000.

The August school board meeting will take place at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug .25 at the district offices. All Pleasant Valley School District residents are encouraged to attend.

Zion's Seniors

The Senior Citizens group at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 18. The invitation to join is open to those 50 and older. Members are reminded to bring a lunch. Beverages are provided.

This group is separate from the Monroe Seniors who come to lunch at Zion on Wednesdays and Fridays, though attendance may overlap.

Christmas in August

This Sunday, Aug. 14 at Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kresgeville, they will sing Christmas carols and collect "gifts" for PVEN such as new sneakers, socks, undies, gently used sheets and blankets.

Visitors are invited to stay after worship for a Christmas brunch.

Garden helpers are still needed to help beautify the church gardens by weeding.

Weeders will start at the library garden and work toward the Sunday school wing. Come when your schedule permits.

Amputee Support Group

The area Amputee Support Group is slated to meet from 2-3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Pocono Medical Center in the Stroud Conference Room.

Area folks needing Lyme disease support can attend a meeting at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Tunkhannock Township building.

PVSD lifetime pass

The PVSD is offering an opportunity for all Pleasant Valley School District residents over the age of 65 to enjoy a Bears Senior Lifetime Pass.

Pass holders can attend all PV sponsored extracurricular activities and performing arts events.

To get a lifetime pass, stop by the PVSD Administration Office next to the PV middle school on Route 115 in Brodheadsville, during regular business hours.

Summer hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Successful VBS

Up to 50 children attended the recent Vacation Bible School at Effort UMC, which looked at the life of Jesus as a youth. The Rev. Robin Fisher, pastor of the church, credited the leadership of Deb Audet and the volunteers for the successful program.

At 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5 there will be a Youth Mission trip presentation. Pictures and personal stories from the trip to West Virginia will be shared.

Smith Reunion

The Smith-Schmidt Reunion will be this Sunday, July 31 at St. Matthew's UCC Picnic Grove from 1-7 p.m.

This reunion brings together the descendants of Abraham and Margaretha Schmidt.

Entertainment includes music, cake walk, basket raffle and they are looking for donations for the cake walk and basket raffle.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School will be Aug. 1-5 at St. Matthew's UCC from 9-11:30 a.m.

Needs continue

Over 155 people were impacted when 38 families were served this past Saturday at the Effort UMC's Supplemental Center.

Currently needed by the food pantry are: canned fruit and vegetables, tuna, spaghetti sauce and pasta.

To donate bring items to the church office during office hours, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

On Wednesdays pantry volunteers are generally present to receive the donations.
