The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Co. Bring a bag lunch. There will be a Chinese auction.

PVSD lifetime pass

The PVSD is offering an opportunity for all Pleasant Valley School District residents over the age of 65 to enjoy a Bears Senior Lifetime Pass.

Pass holders can attend all PV sponsored extracurricular activities and performing arts events.

To get a lifetime pass, stop by the PVSD Administration Office next to the PV middle school on Route 115 in Brodheadsville, during regular business hours.

Summer hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Successful VBS

Up to 50 children attended the recent Vacation Bible School at Effort UMC, which looked at the life of Jesus as a youth. The Rev. Robin Fisher, pastor of the church, credited the leadership of Deb Audet and the volunteers for the successful program.

At 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5 there will be a Youth Mission trip presentation. Pictures and personal stories from the trip to West Virginia will be shared.

Smith Reunion

The Smith-Schmidt Reunion will be this Sunday, July 31 at St. Matthew's UCC Picnic Grove from 1-7 p.m.

This reunion brings together the descendants of Abraham and Margaretha Schmidt.

Entertainment includes music, cake walk, basket raffle and they are looking for donations for the cake walk and basket raffle.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School will be Aug. 1-5 at St. Matthew's UCC from 9-11:30 a.m.

Needs continue

Over 155 people were impacted when 38 families were served this past Saturday at the Effort UMC's Supplemental Center.

Currently needed by the food pantry are: canned fruit and vegetables, tuna, spaghetti sauce and pasta.

To donate bring items to the church office during office hours, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

On Wednesdays pantry volunteers are generally present to receive the donations.

Salem St. Paul's

Christmas in August is Sunday, Aug. 14 at Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

They will sing Christmas carols and collect "gifts" for PVEN, such as new sneakers, socks, undies, gently used sheets and blankets. Stay after worship for a Christmas brunch.

There will be a blood drive in honor of JoAnne Fitzpatrick Sunday, Aug. 7 after worship. Fill the bus. The Red Cross bus will be there from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Grocer's fight cancer

Kinsley's ShopRite in Brodheadsville will hold Grocer's Fight Cancer Day on Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Special activities will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including"celebrity baggers" who will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

St. Matt's Youth Group

The Youth Group at St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown has been diligently working on painting the cemetery's wrought iron fence this summer.

They are meeting every Tuesday and Thursday this month from 2-7 p.m., with supper provided and later a movie.

They will be camping out in the church's picnic grove on Saturday, July 23, preparing a skit for the church's Sunday morning 9 a.m. worship service.

Al-Anon - Adult Children meeting

Al-Anon - Adult Children Meetings take place on Mondays, from 7:30-9 p.m. at Salem United Church of Christ, Route 209 and Gilbert Road, Gilbert (behind the Turkey Hill).

Al-Anon is for families, relatives and friends whose lives have been affected by alcoholism.

If someone close to you has, or has had a drinking problem, then Al-Anon may be for you.

Anyone who has been affected by another person's addiction and/or dysfunctions is welcome also.

The public is welcome to join them to learn more how Al-Anon can help.

Mission trip

Adults and youth from Effort United Methodist Church left Sunday for a mission trip to Peterstown, West Virginia, accompanied by the Rev. Robin Fisher, pastor. In the pastor's absence, the Rev. Robert G. Argot Sr., retired pastor, preached at both Sunday services.

Zion seniors

The Zion Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 21, at the church's fellowship hall in Brodheadsville.

Spanish Mass

A Spanish Mass will be offered at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 24.
