St. Matthew's Bible study

St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown is holding Bible Study classes on Monday nights at 6:30 p.m.

Currently they are studying David in a program by Beth Moore.

The public is invited.

Halloween party

St. Matthew's annual Halloween party will be on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. Those attending should come in costumes.

There will be prizes, games and refreshments.

PTO pumpkin carving

The Polk PTO invites everyone to Pumpkin Carving Night on Friday, Oct. 28 in the Polk gymnasium.

Grades K-2 will be carving from 6-7 p.m. and grades 3-4 will be carving 7:15-8:15 p.m. Polk students and their families are welcome to attend.

Meet Your Friends Night

PVE PTO will be hosting a sixth grade Meet Your Friends Night on Friday, Oct. 28 from 4-6 p.m. Please be there promptly to pick up your child.

Cancer awareness

Kevin Noll will speak at the West End Rotary Club meeting at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville. His topic will be Aflac Cancer Awareness.

Eldred Township Halloween Parade

The Eldred Twp. Halloween Parade is this Sunday, Oct. 23 starting at 1 p.m. The parade route will start in the St. Matthew's UCC's picnic grove, will march past the church, right on to Fiddletown Road then right on Kunkletown Road and end in the parking lot of the Kunkletown Vol. Fire Co.

Salem UCC Al-Anon meeting

Al-Anon Adult Children meetings are on Monday evenings, from 7:30-8:30 p.m., at Salem United Church of Christ, Route 209 and Gilbert Road, Gilbert, (behind the Turkey Hill).

Did you grow up with a problem drinker? Have you been affected by another person's drinking? Al-Anon is for families, relatives and friends whose lives have been affected by alcoholism.

World Lions Day

Western Pocono Lions, Lioness and Leos helped make the local involvement in World Lions Day a success, says Past Council Chair and Chairman Lion Christopher J. Sweeney of the annual project to take seniors for a ride in the countryside to see the fall foliage.

The guests, from four different personal care homes and rehabilitation centers including Brookmont in Effort, Mrs. Bush's in Kunkletown, Getz's in Jonas and Wesley Rehabilitation in Brodheadsville, had a great day outdoors, he adds.

Trick or Treat

Polk Township's Trick or Treat night will be Monday, Oct. 31 from 5-8 p.m. If you would like the trick or treaters to come to your door, leave the outside porch light on.

Halloween parade

Be sure to preregister for the Eldred Township Halloween Parade, which will be held on Sunday, Oct. 23 (rain date is Oct. 30). Check-in time is between 11 a.m. and noon. The judging begins at 12:15 p.m. in St. Matthew's Church Grove in Kunkletown. The parade will begin at 1 p.m.

Treats are guaranteed to preregistered applicants only. Only preregistered applicants will be judged. Pre-registration deadline is Oct. 16.

Sweet treat time

The Leo Club at Pleasant Valley High School will be doing a sweet reach out to families attending the parent teacher conference this Wednesday. They will be offering baked goods to attending families, made by them or supporting Lions and Lioness from the West End clubs.

The conferences run from 5-8:30 p.m. for grades 9-12.

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, in the district offices in Brodheadsville.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Co. They will be celebrating Columbus Day. Bring a bag lunch and bring your bingo chips to play bingo.

Old phone books

Brooke Sheckler is collecting old phone books for a school recycling project. If you have some you would like to get rid of, bring them to St. Matthew's UCC during office hours of Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. or Sundays from 8-11:30 a.m.
