Leo Club leaders

The Western Pocono Lions Club's sponsored Leo Club at Pleasant Valley High School held its first meeting of the school year recently and elected its officers.

Serving as student leaders for the service club will be: Evan Shibley, president; Nina Staats, vice president; Jessica Hughes, secretary; and Krystal Tedesco, treasurer.

Tai Dottery was appointed photographer/columnist for the club. Serving as PVHS staff adviser is Melissa Dennis.

Harvest Home

St. Matthew's UCC will celebrate Harvest Home on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 9 a.m.

Those attending are asked to bring in nonperishable and perishable items from the garden to be displayed for the worship service.

Everything will then be donated to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network.

It has been reported that their shelves are empty and are in need of everything.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Co.

Bring a bag lunch. They will be playing bingo.

Polk Elementary School will be holding its first PTO meeting of the year on Monday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. Join them with your ideas for the upcoming school year.

Pleasant Valley Intermediate School will be holding a Meet Your Friends Night for sixth grade on Friday, Sept. 28 from 3:45-6 p.m. in the school gym. Please make sure to pick up your child(ren) promptly.

In regard to the announcement of the flu shots available at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville at the Monroe Seniors meeting on Friday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., the clinic is available to anyone over the age of 18 and not just seniors, according to Kate Koehler at Prime Time of Monroe County.

Pleasant Valley Elementary will host an open house on Thursday, Sept. 13 from 6-8 p.m. for grades 2-3.

PTO meetings

Pleasant Valley Elementary will have its first PTO meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. in the all purpose room.

PV Intermediate will also be having its first PTO meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. in the library.

Young at Heart Seniors

The Young at Heart Seniors will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. at the Polk Township Vol. Fire Co. in Kresgeville.

PIC meets

Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC) announces that the time is here for the annual Chestnuthill Township Beautification Award. This honor is given to a business in the township for its outstanding beautification of the property.

Previous winners not only had a clean, well-kept property, but also planted a host of different beautiful annual flowers.

The next PIC meeting will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

Community Day Fair

Ross Township will hold its free fourth annual Community Day Fair at the Haney/VanBuskirk Park, Anchorage Rd in Saylorsburg on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 16.

The event is designed to bring residents together and let them know of the community groups and municipal/county services available to them. It's not too late to register your group or organization, free of charge.

The day will include, food, demonstrations, entertainment and new this year will be crafters showcasing their talents.

Cornerstone Community Church

Cornerstone Community Church will now have two worship services beginning Sunday, Sept. 9.

Join them for Sunday worship at 8:30 a.m.

You will find a one-hour service with nursery, toddler and preschool care provided. They invite you to stay for their Sunday School program for all ages at 9:45 a.m.

The second Sunday worship begins at 11 a.m. with nursery, toddler and preschool care for the younger crowd.

During this service they offer Jr. Worship for children in grades K-3 and Preteen Zone for kids in grades 4-6.

Western Pocono Lioness

Western Pocono Lioness Club held its ice cream social and meeting last week.

Various reports dealt with the upcoming fashion show the club is hosting at Hideaway Hills Golf Course in Kresgeville. The club also heard from its Monroe County Conservation camp sponsored student, Joseph Hulton, via a letter.
