Free community supper

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Route 209, Gilbert, is offering those who have fallen on hard times, a free community supper. They serve the West End, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, and the Blakeslee areas.

The supper will be held in McCawley Hall at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Sunday, Feb. 24, from 3-4 p.m.

Making free feeders

The West End Park & Open Space Commission will provide everything needed to make pine cone bird feeders on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville

The program is free and open to all ages and will run from 10 a.m. to noon.

Safe Haven Pet Rescue will hold an Adoption Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 17, at Tractor Supply, Route 209, Brodheadsville.

They will have many young dogs available.

A pre-adoption application with references and a home visit are required before adoption.

The Jan. 28 Polk Township supervisors' meeting has been changed due to the weather.

Super Souper Bowl

Effort United Methodist Church is having its own version of the Super Bowl. The church calls it Souper Sunday, which is its way of replenishing stock in the church food pantry.

Begun last Sunday, and continuing this Sunday, Feb. 2, members and friends of the church have been asked to bring nonperishable items to help fill four large soup pots that will be in the narthex. (Donations of canned soups are an urgent need).

St. Matthew's

St. Matthew's UCC has announced that the Rev. Suzanne Brooks-Cope has accepted the call to be the church's full time pastor. Rev. Brooks-Cope will be installed on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. In addition, she is celebrating her 25th year as an ordained minister. St. Matthew's will be holding a celebratory dinner immediately after her installation. Everyone is invited to attend.

Exercising seniors

There is a low-impact exercise class for those over 55 at the Kunkletown Vol. Fire Co. every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-10 a.m.

Local scholarship

The Western Pocono Women's Club will be awarding its annual $500 Jacqueline Sue Coleman Memorial Scholarship and a $500 Western Pocono Women's Club Scholarship again this year. All students in the Pleasant Valley School District who plan to attend college in the fall may apply.

Applications are available on the WPWC website at or at the Pleasant Valley School District website, Applications must be received by the guidance office no later than April 23 to be considered.
