American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive from 1-6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26. Donations types needed are double red cells and blood.

Harvest Home

St. Matthew's UCC will celebrate Harvest Home on Sunday, Sept. 22 at its 9 a.m. worship service. You are invited to bring fresh produce from your gardens and/or any nonperishable food items that you would like to donate to Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network's food pantry. The items will be blessed and given thanks for God's bounty.

Al-Anon adult children meeting

Al-Anon adult children meetings are held Monday evenings, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Salem United Church of Christ, Route 209 and Gilbert Road, Gilbert (behind the Turkey Hill).

Al-Anon is for families, relatives and friends whose lives have been affected by alcoholism. If someone close to you has, or has had a drinking problem, then Al-Anon may be for you. The West End Rotary Club will welcome Jessica Alexandre, Riley and Company, on Thursday, Sept. 19. She will present information on the Stroudsburg Rotary Club Hurricane Sandy Project. The club meets at 7:30 Thursday mornings at the Western Pocono Community Library.

Historical society

The Eldred Township Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Eldred Township municipal building.

September is back to school month so everyone is asked to share something related to school from days gone by such as a yearbook, class picture, clothing item that was in style back then.

The historical society meets the third Tuesday of the month and new members are always welcome.

St. Matthew's UCC will be celebrating Rally Day on Sunday, Sept. 8. It is the startups day for Sunday School and children and adults are invited to attend at 10:30 a.m. There are classes for all ages.

Lioness celebrate

The Western Pocono Lioness Club celebrated its three-prong August club meeting with a mini-fashion show courtesy of Dress Barn and manager Bonnie Fader. Club President Ruth Smith expressed her thanks to Fader for putting the show together, and to models Karen Heckman, Karoline Kormann, Ruth Hebron and Maryann Cloos.

Safe Haven Rescue

Safe Haven Pet Rescue will have a volunteer meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m. at Cherry's Family Restaurant, Route 209 near Route 534, Kresgeville. Safe Haven is a small group of animal advocates who rescue dogs from high kill and overcrowded shelters and find them loving homes. All dogs are in foster care until their permanent homes are found.

Volunteers are needed for adoption days, dog transport to veterinary and grooming appointments, fundraising, clerical help, home visits and more. Foster homes are needed in order to save more dogs.
