Coaldale Tax office will be closed Feb. 21 through Feb. 28. Normal hours will resume on March 1.

The office will be open on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

If taxpayers quality for exoneration or exemptions, they should return they signed and dated application, along with proof of eligibility. Catharine Papesh is the Coaldale tax collector.

The Anthracite Little League (Summit Hill/Nesquehoning) will hold registration sessions at both the Summit Hill and Nesquehoning borough buildings on the following dates: Saturdays, Feb. 19 and March 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Summit Hill

Lions Club

The monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Lions Club will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. Since February is Heart Health Month, the program will be on "Chest Pain Awareness."

Members planning to attend should contact club president Dr. Kenneth Vermillion before Friday, Feb. 18.

St. Paul Lutheran

The schedule for St. Paul Lutheran Church for Sunday, Feb. 20, is as follows: Sunday school 9 a.m., and service of worship, 10:30 a.m. The Rev. John Hazel, pastor, will preside.

Summit Hill

SHHS to meet

The Summit Hill Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting tonight at 7 o'clock in the museum on Ludlow Street. Lee Mantz, president, will be in charge of the session.

The agenda will include correspondence from William Roulette First Lady Cleveland's Parasol visit; and Michael Gallagher 1935 Boy Scouts.

Discussions will include topics of tinting for the museum windows, the society's newsletter, license plates and various fundraisers.

Future meetings of the society will take place on March 16, April 20 and May 18.

A Panther Valley JROTC meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. in the JROTC classroom at the high school.

Nesquehoning

Zion Lutheran

Morning worship will begin at Zion Lutheran Church in Nesquehoning at 9 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 13. The sermon title this week is "To Preserve, Protect and to Prophesy."

Visitors are always welcome.

There will be a special congregational meeting immediately following the service on Sunday.

The Panther Valley Public Library has some sweet ideas for Valentine's Day.

On Monday, Feb 14, children ages 3-9 are welcome to attend a Valentine's Day story time with Miss Debi. The story time will include Valentine's books, making crafts and having snacks from 4-6 p.m.

On Valentine's Day, the library will be having a one day only sale on paperback love stories. Come in from 3:30-7:30 p.m. and buy a bag for your sweetheart. The library also has an array of antique Valentines on display throughout February.

The Lansford Food Pantry will be held on Monday, Feb. 21 from 9:30-11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104East Abbott St., Lansford. The food pantry is held on the third Monday of each month and serves the residents of Lansford who meet the income guidelines.

The food pantry is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers of the community. Food items are purchased by state and federal funding and from donations from the local businesses and residents, which have been decreasing over the past few years.

GOP to meet

The Coaldale Republican Party will hold a meeting at the West Ward Rod & Gun Club on Monday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. Petitions and election information will be available for candidates interested in running in the Primary Election on May 17 for positions on borough council and the Panther Valley School Board.

Bob Ames, town chair, will preside at the meeting.
