Summit Hill

VBS planned

The Community Vacation Bible School will be held July 25-29 at the Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church, Summit Hill.

Daily sessions will start at 9 a.m.

The school is designed for youths from age 3 through the sixth grade. Anyone is welcome to participate, regardless of denomination.

The theme will be "Shake It Up, Kids Follow God's Recipes."

St. Paul Lutheran

The Rev. Elaine Quincey will lead the worship service on Sunday, July 24, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill. It will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Golden Agers

The meeting of July 11 of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was opened with an inspirational prayer recited by the group. Special guest of the day was Sally Mitchell from Weatherwood Nursing Facility. She stated that she would be available 24/7 if anyone needs information regarding admissions and activities.

Names are still being taken for the Aug. 22 indoor picnic.

Members celebrating birthdays during the month of April, May, June, July and August will be recognized during August.

Lions Club

The Summit Hill Lions Club will hold a golf committee meeting tonight at 6 o'clock at Kelly's Pub, Lansford. Plans for the annual outing to be held in August will be furthered.

Lions are reminded the club members have been invited to attend the summer picnic of the Tamaqua Lions Club. It is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the club's grove.

Summit Hill

Fall baseball

The Anthracite Little League (Summit Hill and Nesquehoning) will once again hold a fall baseball program. Registration sessions have been scheduled for Monday, July 18, from 6-8 p.m. at the Nesquehoning Little League field and on Friday, July 22, from 6-8 p.m. at the Summit Hill Little League field. A registration fee will be required.

Senior center events

The Panther Valley Senior Center announces its July events. Starting July 7 there will be a bus trip to the Sands Casino leaving at 10:30 a.m. from CVS. The center will remain open that day. July 8 everyone will play Deal or No Deal at 11 a.m.

St. Paul Lutheran

The Rev. Carl Schweitzer, a retired pastor from Lehighton, will be the guest preacher at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, on Sunday, July 3.

The service will begin at 9:30 a.m., which is a new starting time for the services which will be held in July and August.

A meeting of the Congregational Council will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, to discuss upcoming projects.

On Wednesdays at 7 p.m. St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, holds an informal worship: a spiritual, peaceful evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief musical evening prayer. Lansford

Trip for servers

St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will sponsor a free trip to the Scranton Yankees-Louiseville Bars game on Saturday, Aug. 6, for all altar servers and their parents. Information about the trip will be mailed to the families.

MSC sisters honored

Three Missionary Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus who have local ties celebrated their anniversaries in the convent recently. They include:

Sister M. Rosemary Balazek, who resides at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg, celebrated her 75th anniversary.

Lansford

Jubilarian sisters

Five area nuns who are members of the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters (OSF), all of whom were born in Lansford, recently celebrated milestone anniversaries in the order.

The women were among 16 sisters honored at a Jubliee Mass and dinner reception at Alvernia College, Reading, in May 29.

They include:

Sister Aileen Bomba, who celebrated the 75th anniversary of her reception into the order.

Born Helen Bomba, she is a daughter of the late Joseph and Stephanie (Krutsick) Bomba.

Scripture sharing

The weekly scripture sharing program at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will continue this week.
