Neighborhood Watch

The next meeting of the Nesquehoning Neighborhood Watch group will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the borough hall.

Recreation Commission

The Nesquehoning Recreation Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center.

Trick or Treat night

Trick or Treat night in Nesquehoning will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Oct. 30.

Participating residents should leave their front porch light on to let residents know they will be handing out treats.

Summit Hill

Flag program

The Summit Hill Lions Club is continuing its American flag program.

During the good weather months, the flag will fly in Ludlow Park in memory or honor of veterans from the community.

During the week of Oct. 6, the flag will fly in memory of the late Rev. Richard Campo, who served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, having had two tours of duty in Vietnam.

After his military service, he entered the seminary and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Allentown on June 8, 1985. Rev. Campo passed away on Nov. 17, 2008.

Woman's club meeting

Members of the Nesquehoning Woman's Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the Zion Lutheran Church with President Barbara Priadka in charge.

The program will feature Janene Holter Solarczyk, special agent for the Bureau of Special Investigations.

Dues are now payable to treasurer Ginny Novy.

Summit Hill

Flag program

The Summit Hill Lions Club is continuing its American flag program. During the good weather months, the flag will fly in Ludlow Park in memory or honor of veterans from the community.

During the week of Sept. 29, the flag will fly in memory of the late Christy Lisella.

A graduate of the former Summit Hill High School, he was an Army veteran of the European and African theaters, having served with the 636th Infantry, 36th Division. He attained the rank of T-5.

Lisella was a grand marshal of the 2012 Summit Hill Memorial Day Parade.

Healing ministry of St. Francis of Assisi Church

St. Francis of Assisi Church in Nesquehoning extends a personal invitation to anyone struggling with the grief process in the loss of a loved one recently, or a loss of many years ago.

The Fall Seasons Bereavement Group will begin on Oct. 16 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the parish library. Sessions will continue for six weeks and are strictly confidential.

Registration is free but required so there is enough material for everyone.

Historical society

The Nesquehoning Historical Society will host its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the cafe of MapleShade Meadows, 50 E. Locust St.

The evening will include a special presentation on the founding of Pennsylvania by Joseph Roman Jr., an adjunct professor of history at Lehigh Carbon Community College and a Nesquehoning resident. He will talk about the impact that William Penn's Quaker beliefs had on his proposals for structure of the colonial government.

Protestant Slovak Cemetery Association

The next meeting of the Protestant Slovak Cemetery Association of Nesquehoning will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church in Nesquehoning.

Anyone who has an interest in the cemetery is invited to come to this meeting to help with the maintenance of the cemetery, especially those who have relatives buried there.

Flag program

The Summit Hill Lions Club is continues its American flag program. During the good weather months, the flag will fly in Ludlow Park in memory or honor of veterans from the community.

During the week of Sept. 15, the flag will fly in honor of John Keltz.

A 1941 graduate of Summit Hill High School, he enlisted in the Navy upon graduation and served through 1945, having attained the rank of AMM first class while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise in the South Pacific during World War II.

Rally Day

Rally Day at Meed's UMC, 126 W. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday. Everyone is invited.

High Energy Group will be performing vocals and dance. There will be a children's service and more. A pot luck dinner will follow.

Clock tower

The church would like to thank all those who donated, baked or bought at Redner's last weekend to benefit the clock tower at Meed's UMC. The clock repairs will be done shortly and the clock tower will be chiming soon.
