Franklin Township garbage collection date changed

Franklin Township will change the date of garbage collection due to the Columbus holiday. Garbage normally scheduled for pickup on Monday, Oct. 11, will be collected on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Trick or treat night set

Trick or treat night in Franklin Township will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

Special police approval

Franklin Township supervisors approved the request of the Franklin Township Special Police to provide assistance during the Lehighton Halloween parade on Oct. 23.

Class of 1978

The Tamaqua Area High School Class of 1978 will hold a Birthday Bash on Sept. 25 in celebration of its 50th anniversary reunion. The party will be held at the West Penn Rod and Gun Club, beginning at 1 p.m.

Festivities will include a pig roast, two live bands, food and refreshments, and a D.J.

The Panther Valley High School Class of 2011 parents will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the high school to discuss plans for the All-Night Party.

Summit Hill

OLOF Sodality

The Our Lady of Fatima Sodality of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will hold its annual Mass and breakfast celebration on Sunday, Oct. 17.

The women will attend Mass together at 9 a.m. that day in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, followed by the breakfast in the church hall.

Band festival

The Tamaqua Area "Raider" Band and Band Boosters will host the 14th Annual Land of the Running Water Band Festival on Oct. 9 in the Tamaqua Sports Stadium. This year's event will feature 13 visiting bands to be judged by a panel of current and former music educators. Trophies will be awarded.

Conservation Club

The Nesquehoning Conservation Club is going to try something new this month. The meeting will be an outdoor meeting at the First Hollow Reservoir on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m., weather permitting. The gate will be open and you can walk in or drive. In case of rain it will be held at the regularly scheduled time which is the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at MapleShade Meadows.

Looking good

The American Cancer Society will host a Look Good, Feel Better makeover workshop from 4-6 p.m., Sept. 27 at the Carbon/Tamaqua Unit Office, 33 W. Ridge St., Lansford.

During the session, trained cosmetologists will meet with patients to discuss ways of using makeup and accessories to minimize appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Look Good, Feel Better is offered in a group setting, providing participants with cancer education, information and support.
