MC Council of the Blind

The Monroe County Council of the Blind invites all for meetings and events at the group's new location, the Pocono Medical Center, Brodhead Room, in East Stroudsburg.

The organization meets from 10 a.m. to noon, the first Saturday of each month with coffee and camaraderie at 9:30 a.m.

The new officers of the MCCB for 2010 are: Thomas Reid, president; Helen Koshensky, vice-president; Michael Bryant, treasurer; Maryann Alexander, recording secretary, and Elida Gares, corresponding secretary.

TOPS

The Tamaqua Chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meets every Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m., in the Tamaqua Salvation Army Community Center, 105 W. Broad St. The meeting includes a short business session and a program.

The Palmerton Area School District will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Day. School will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Class of 2010 All Night Party

The next parents' meeting for the Palmerton Area High School Class of 2010 All Night Party is scheduled for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, in the library with a snow date of 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14.

Please return your pizza orders and payment at or before the meeting. Lottery tickets can also be returned that evening (but no later than Jan. 25).

All parents are asked to attend the meeting to make this a special and safe night for all students. This party is in the evening following graduation.

Board of Health

The January meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with James Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker, Health Officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.

Barron provided his end-of-year report, noting he made 55 general inspections and 48 spot check inspections. Barron also issued 45 licenses and collected $1,575 in fees.

PV Senior Center

New members are always welcome to join the Panther Valley Senior Center.

The center is located at the Nesquehoning School Apts. on East Catawissa Street. The manager is Fran Craigie.

On Jan. 11 there will be horse racing at 11 a.m.; Jan. 12 is line dancing in the morning; Jan. 13 is birthday bingo at 11 a.m.; Jan. 14 blood pressure screenings; Jan. 15 darts at 11 a.m.
