Touchdown Club

The Jim Thorpe Olympian Touchdown Club will meet this evening at 6 p.m. in the commons area of the high school. The monthly meetings are open to anyone interested in the school's football program.

Parents/guardians/grandparents are asked to attend and help in planning this year's events.

Fire company meeting

The members of the Phoenix Fire Company will meet on Tuesday, June 14, at 7 p.m. at the company headquarters.

PV Knee Hi

The Panther Valley Knee Hi will host a meeting on June 14 at 8 p.m. at the Sports Zoo in Lansford.

Final registration is being held for all players and cheerleaders on Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at the PV High School. There is a fee.

Summit Hill

St. Paul Lutheran

The Rev. Richard Spengler will be the guest preacher at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, on Sunday, June 12.

A retired pastor from Macungie, he will lead the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

ACS makeover

The American Cancer Society will host a Look Good, Feel Better makeover workshop from 4-6 p.m., June 13, at the Carbon-Tamaqua Office of the American Cancer Society, 33 W. Ridge Street, Lansford.

The session is free and open to all local female cancer patients actively undergoing cancer treatment.

During the session, trained cosmetologists will meet with patients to discuss ways of using makeup and accessories to minimize appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Historical society

The Palmerton Area Historical Society will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday, June 13, in the gallery of the Palmerton Area Library. The program for the evening will be presented by Mary Behler on her hobby of Parchment Craft. A brief business meeting will start at 7 p.m., followed by the program. The public is invited to attend, without cost or obligation.

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile held in Tamaqua on May 25 collected a total of 47 units of the "gift of life." St. John United Church of Christ, Pine and Biddle streets, served as the collection site.

There were two first time donors, Zachary Bachman and Schuyler Schmidt. Multi-gallon pins were awarded to: David Mace, 8 gallons; Paul Kern, 16 gallons; and John Handler, 20 gallons.

Volunteers included Bob and Dolly Shirey, Joan Camerini, Dolores Martin and Darlene Zeckman.

This visit was sponsored by The Broad Street Deli.

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church

Salem St. Paul will host the Shake it Up Café, where kids carry out God's recipe for living. Vacation Bible School starts Sunday, June 26 at 10:20 a.m. after the worship service, and continues Monday through Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The closing celebration will be Thursday at 8 p.m.

The VBS program is for the whole family, with classes for ages 4 through grade 6, with adult classes too. Junior and senior high students are encouraged to come and be teacher's aides, or help with crafts, music, games or snacks.

Heritage center

The quilts that have been on display at the Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., have been replaced by another group of antique quilts. The center is open various hours from Wednesday through Saturday each week. Phone (610) 824-6954 for a recording that lists hours each day. Admission is free.
