Coaldale

Ash Wednesday service

The beginning of Lent will be observed at a service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church in Coaldale. The public is invited to attend this special service.

Morning worship will be held at 9 Sunday, followed by Sunday school at 10.

The church board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the church.

Morning worship and Sunday school will be conducted at 9 and 10 a.m., respectively, on Feb. 22.

Computer classes

The Tamaqua Public Library offers free basic computer classes through the Seniors Training Seniors Program. The one-on-one instruction is offered throughout each week during normal library hours.

The classes are also available to the general public on a space available basis.

The Over-60 Club of Palmerton will meet at noon Tuesday at Palmerton Borough Hall, 401 Delaware Ave. in Palmerton.

Consolidation news

The Growing Place Child Care Centers have consolidated its programs into two of the local elementary schools within the Pleasant Valley School District that have been closed due to low enrollment. Staff is thrilled to have infants through school age children together in one building.

The families enjoy the school setting where each age group has its own classroom. The older children are thrilled to see the infants and toddlers each day.

The 50th class reunion for the Marian Catholic High School class of 1965 will be held on May 24 at Capriotti Palasso's in McAdoo.

Library storytime

The Tamaqua Public Library's Spring Storytime sessions will begin on March 17 and March 18.

Each Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m., children between the ages of 2 and 5 are welcome to join in the fun, where they will be read fiction and nonfiction books, learn songs, design special crafts and enjoy snacks.

Storytime will be held for 10 consecutive weeks, ending in May.

TEPTO news

The Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization will meet on Tuesday.

Fifth-grade parents will meet at 6 p.m. in the school library to discuss the menu for the fifth-grade party and the current doughnut sale. Delivery date for the doughnuts will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Feb. 15, at the South Ward Fire Company.

The regular PTO meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Topics for discussion will include the yearbook, with order forms due by Feb. 27, and a Gertrude Hawk candy sale for Easter.
