Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gerber

Elda and Ralph Gerber of New Ringgold are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. They were married on Dec. 21, 1940 at Zion's Stone Church in Snyders by the late Rev. W.W. Moyer. They are lifelong members of Zion's Stone Church.

Mrs. Gerber is the former Elda Shellhamer, daughter of the late Eva and Morris Shellhamer of New Ringgold. Her husband is the son of the late Katie and Mahlon Gerber of New Ringgold.

The Gerbers have two daughters: Janice, wife of Walter Rudy of Bridgeville, Del.; and Rhea, wife of Gerald Steigerwalt of New Ringgold.

Kathryn Maryn Breslin

A daughter, Kathryn Maryn Breslin, was born at 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 19, 2010 at Reading Hospital, Reading, to Robert and Melissa Sommers Breslin of Summit Hill.

She weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces, and measured 20.5 inches long.

The new baby was welcomed home by her big sister Caroline, 2.

Maternal grandparents are Joseph and Lorraine Sommers of Summit Hill.

Paternal grandparents are Donna Breslin of Summit Hill and the late Edward Breslin.

Kayleigh Alissa Halenar

A daughter, Kayleigh Alissa Halenar, was born at 12:42 p.m. on Nov. 23, 2010 at Reading Hospital to Heather and Joe Halenar of Jim Thorpe.

She weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces and measured 19 inches long.

Maternal grandparents are Glenn and Audrey Kline of Bethel, Pa.

Paternal grandparents are John and Jane Halenar of Jim Thorpe.

William Valinch

William Valinch, formerly of 407 Rolling Mill Ave., Tamaqua, will celebrate his 102 birthday on Dec. 22.

Currently residing in Sacramento, Calif., Bill was born in Gilberton, the son of the late John and Margaret (Zerdgusky) Valinch.

He was married to the former Julia McGee for 70 years and has two sons, William of North Huntington and John of Carmichael, Calif. A long time Notre Dame fan, he continues to enjoy regular trips to the casino.

Mr. and Mrs. Shane Murphy

Kellie Beth Hegarty, daughter of Marian and Sean Hegarty, Tamaqua, and Shane Murphy, son of Kathleen and Brad Murphy, Tamaqua, exchanged vows on June 12, 2010, at SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Tamaqua.

The Rev. William Linkchorst officiated the double ring ceremony. Susan Baddick was the organist.

Given in marriage by her parents, the bride chose her sister Kerri Hegarty, Tamaqua, as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were her sisters, Carla Najarro and Sherry Bynon, both of Tamaqua. Flower girls were nieces, Alexis Higgins and Corabel Najarro, both of Tamaqua.

Lisa Mary Breznak, daughter of Joseph and Susan Breznak, Hazleton, and Daniel Joseph Blickley, son of Joseph and Margaret Blickley, Brockton, were united in marriage on Oct. 2, 2010 in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic church, Hazleton.

The Rev. Michael Piccola performed the double ring ceremony.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose her sister, Jennifer Reimiller, Midlothian, Va., as matron of honor, and sister Veronica Breznak, Hazleton, as maid of honor.

Stan and Mary Dakosty of Tamaqua have announced the engagement of their son, Stanley Michael Dakosty Jr. to Jessica Rose Schmitt, daughter of Thomas and Nancy Schmitt of Lebanon, N.Y.

The bride-to-be graduated from Sherburne-Earlville High School, Sherburne N.Y. She also graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2007 with a bachelor of arts degree in dance and Media & Society and a minor in Arts & Education. She is currently pursuing a master of science degree in teaching in childhood education at SUNY Cortland.

Brandon D. Shimp and Gabrielle M. Rowlands

The engagement of Gabrielle Marie Rowlands to Brandon Daniel Shimp, both of Coopersburg, has been announced by the couple's parents.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Elizabeth Rowlands of Jim Thorpe. She is a 2005 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School. She graduated in 2009 from East Stroudsburg University with a bachelor of science in EC/EL education. She went on to the University of Pittsburgh where she obtained a master's degree in library and information science.

She is currently employed at Bushkill Elementary as the school librarian.

Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Rehrig, Lehighton, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stewart, Saylorsburg, announce the engagement of their children, Taryn Nicole Rehrig to Gregory Charles Stewart.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard R. Ahner, Lehighton, and Maryann Rehrig, Palmerton, and the late James Rehrig.

She is a 2007 graduate of Lehighton Area High School and is currently attending Bloomsburg University, where she is working toward a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.
