Rhonwen Peters and Matthew Woodard

The engagement of Rhonwen L. Peters to Matthew M. Woodard has been announced by her parents.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Brett and Sandra Peters of Aquashicola. She is a 2007 graduate of Palmerton Area High School. She recently received a bachelor of science degree in psychology from American International College. She is currently employed as the assistant field hockey coach at Muhlenberg College in Allentown.

Cadden Philip LaClair

A son, Cadden Philip LaClair, was born at 9:12 a.m. on Aug. 24, 2011 in Summit, N.J. to Keri and Jeremy LaClair of New Jersey.

The new baby weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces and measured 20 inches long.

Maternal grandparents are Peggy Sue O'Donnell of Jim Thorpe, and George and Patricia Harris of Lehighton.

Paternal grandparents are Phil and Jill LaClair of Evans Mills, N.Y.

Maternal great-grandparents are Charles and Judy Harris, Lehighton; and the late Fran and Margie O'Donnell.

Mr. and Mrs. James Gurcsik

Amy Kupres, daughter of Randy and Susan Kupres of New Ringgold, became the bride of James Gurcsik, son of John and Mary Gurcsik of Tamaqua, on June 18, 2011, at Christ Church of McKeansburg in McKeansburg.

The Rev. Sunny Stock officiated the double ring ceremony.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose Angela Kupres as the maid of honor.

Michael Gurcsik served as the best man.

Following the ceremony, the couple welcomed friends and family to a reception at Mountain Valley Golf Course, Barnesville.

The couple now resides in Tamaqua.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Macalush of Tamaqua recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

They were married on Aug. 19, 1961 at Primitive Methodist Church, Tamaqua, by the Rev. Francis L. Reilly.

Mrs. Macalush is the former Anne Edmonds, daughter of the late Timothy and Verna Edmonds of Tamaqua.

Mr. Macalush is the son of the late Benjamin and Anna Macalush of Nesquehoning.

The Tamaqua High School Class of 1961 celebrated its golden anniversary with activities recently. The 50th anniversary reunion was held Aug. 6 at Genetti's Banquet Hall, Hazleton. The welcoming address and invocation were offered by Bobbie Parfitt Coccio. In addition to a cocktail hour and dinner, DJ Juice provided music for dancing.
