Mallory Sweeney and Eric Schmieder

The engagement of Mallory Sweeney to Eric Schmieder, both of Newark, N.J., has been announced by her parents.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Sweeney Jr. of Schnecksville. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts from Bucknell University, and will graduate this month with a juris doctorate from Seton Hall Law School.

She is employed by Fitzpatrick, Lentz, Bubba Law Firm in Center Valley, Pa.

Tammy S. Neyer of Lehighton, and Greg Neff, also of Lehighton, were united in marriage on April 9, 2013 at Graceland in Memphis, Tenn.

The Rev. David Bayer officiated the double ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Suzanna Vaughn of Lehighton and the late Carl Trine.

She holds a paralegal degree and is employed as a certified counselor/advocate. The bridegroom is the son of Betty Petco of Lehighton, and Ronald Pitt Neff, also of Lehighton.

He is a graduate of Lehighton Area High School and is employed in construction by Benner & White.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael A. Frable renewed their vows for their 25th wedding anniversary.

Faye J. (Bartholomew) and Michael A. Frable of Palmerton recently renewed their vows in celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary.

The couple was married April 30, 1988. They renewed their vows on April 20 at Faith Alive Church in Bowmanstown. The Rev. Daryn Dotter officiated the ceremony.

A dinner at the church, attended by family and friends, followed the renewal ceremony.

The Frables have three children.

Logan Joseph Miller

MILLER A son, Logan Joseph Miller, was born at 9:37 a.m., April 12, 2013 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest to Amy and Bob Miller of Nesquehoning.

He weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 21.25 inches long.

Maternal grandparents are Joe and Mary Zubek of Summit Hill.

Paternal grandparents are Bob and Bonnie Miller of Tamaqua.

Glen Laudenslager

Glen Robert Laudenslager, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, celebrated his 94th birthday on May 15.

Born in Lewistown, Pa. in 1919, Glen has also resided in Cape May, N.J., Colonia N.J., and Port Charlotte, Fla. over the years.

After graduation from high school he worked at the American Viscose Corp., making rayon thread for use in clothing, stockings, etc.

He spent three years in the Army Air Force and was stationed in Southern Italy as a radar mechanic. He also worked as a machine operator for 41 years in the Steel Mill.

Lehighton American Legion Auxiliary Unit 314 honored three winners of the Unit's Americanism essay contest, a recipient of the American Legion Auxiliary's Past President's Health and Medical Science Scholarship, and the 2012-13 reigning Miss Poppy.

Essay winners were Benjamin Zacharias, a third-grade student at Shull-David Elementary School; and Tatiana Gonzalez, sixth grade and Emily Roberti, seventh grade, both students at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School.

The theme was "What Freedom Do I Enjoy?"

The Pale Moon Players are holding auditions for young actors, ages 8-15, for the play "Wooing Wed Widing Hood" by Charlie Lovett.

Auditions will take place from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 and Wednesday, May 22 at Grace Lutheran Church, 4th and Mahoning streets, Lehighton.

No preparation is needed.

Show dates planned for July 12, 13 and 14.

The Black Diamond Writers' Network will host a speaker on Saturday who will discuss how to transform poems into song.

Loretta Murphy-Birster, writer, singer and performer (as well as school nurse) will share her knowledge and expertise on the similarities and differences between poems and lyrics and adapting poetry to song in her presentation, "The Music of Poetry: Transforming Poems into Song." She will also talk about poetry, lyric writing and choosing music for poetry readings.
