BOB FORD/TIMES NEWS

No matter who ends up running up and down the field, holding the Vince Lombardi trophy Sunday evening, you can be the real big winner.

You may not get a trip to Disneyworld out of the deal, but you are sure to garner the love and adoration of all those gathered around your heavily-laden buffet table and your big screen TV.

OK. Maybe not love and adoration, but your pals will go home satisfied with smiles on their faces; unless of course, their team loses.

Everybody seems enraptured by seven-layer dip. And not that it's bad, but it's been done. And done again. And again.

So for this year's Super Bowl party, why not freshen it up a bit? Take the same concept of shoveling piles of delicious toppings into your mouth, but instead of chips use a slab of roasted potato.

Super Bowl party food is supposed to be indulgently heavy and satisfying. It should be rich and savory and totally over the top.

So to satisfy all of those criteria, I created a mega mashup that draws on two classic party foods Buffalo chicken wings and nachos. The resulting buffalo chicken nachos are easy to assemble, but pack tons of big, bold flavor to get you through the big game. And because they are nachos, it's easy to make enough to feed a crowd.

Q. What bacteria causes athlete's foot?

Athlete's foot is not caused by bacteria. It is caused by tinea, a fungus that also can give you jock itch and ringworm. You can catch it from another person, from animals or wet surfaces such as the floors of public showers.

Athlete's foot symptoms include dry skin, itching, burning, scaling, inflammation, and blisters. If blisters break, tissue becomes exposed and this can be painful.

AP PHOTO Live flu virus is sprayed into the nose of Daniel Bennett, 26, of College Park, Md., who is part of a study at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) – Forget being sneezed on: Government scientists are deliberately giving dozens of volunteers the flu by squirting the live virus straight up their noses.

It may sound bizarre, but the rare type of research is a step in the quest for better flu vaccines. It turns out that how the body fends off influenza remains something of a mystery.

"Vaccines are working, but we could do better," said Dr. Matthew Memoli of the National Institutes of Health, who is leading the study that aims to infect up to 100 adults over the next year.
