Two concerts are featured this weekend at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe.

Tonight, the rock band Queensryche will be performing at 8. Opening will be Red Dragon Cartel.

At 8 p.m. Saturday, Sha Na Na is presenting its 45th anniversary show and will highlight songs from the movie "Grease." Sha Na Na was cast as Johnny Casino and the Gamblers in the iconic film.

Larry Chance and the Earls will be appearing Friday night at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe in a benefit concert for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.

"Re-mem-mem, re-mem-mem-mem-ber."

It was a catchy beat; an oldies song that was up-tempo and made a name for a group from the Bronx called Larry Chance and the Earls.

Friday night, Larry Chance and the Earls will headline a benefit concert at Penn's Peak for the Carbon-Tamaqua Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Also performing will be the local oldies band Remember When and Eddie "Mr. Ed" Collins.

Tickets for the event are $15 if purchased in advance and $20 at the door. Showtime is 7 p.m.

Country singer Don Williams will be performing Friday night at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe.

It's a full menu of country music at Penn's Peak over the next two weeks.

Among the events is a concert Saturday night by Rhonda Vincent & the Rage, who do traditional country and bluegrass. This is Vincent's first appearance at Penn's Peak and it comes at the dawn of her newest album release, which is already her most successful album of the many she's recorded.

Here's whats coming up:

Ÿ Friday - The legendary Don Williams will be performing at 8 p.m. Tickets are $34 and $39. Opening will be Colm Kirwan, a native of Ireland.

Four more concerts were added to Penn's Peak line-up for 2014.

They are:

Ÿ Sunday, May 4 - The Winery Dogs, 8 p.m. Tickets $22 advance and $27 day of concert.

Ÿ Sunday, May 18 - Paul Barrere and Fred Tacket of Little Feat with special guest, The New Orleans Suspects, 7:30 p.m. Tickets $20 advance and $25 at door.

Ÿ Friday, June 13 - Live Wire, The World's ULTIMATE AC/DC Concert Experience, with special guest, Exciter, Judas Priest Tribute, 8 p.m. Tickets $17 advance and $22 day of show.

Rock music fans are in for a treat.

Coming Friday, Jan. 31, to Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe is the band Kix, with special guest Autograph.

The concert gets underway at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22 in advance and $27 at the door.

In 1981, Kix debuted with a self-titled album "KIX," featuring "Atomic Bombs," "Heartache," "Contrary Mary", "The Itch," and "The Kid."

"Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" instantly became a concert favorite.

Concert rescheduled

The double-header concert by Blue Oyster Cult and Foghat at Penn's Peak has been rescheduled for Friday, May 2.

It originally had been slated to be held on April 5.

Penn's Peak management says all tickets purchased for the April event will be honored at the May 2 concert.

Rhonda Vincent set

to release new album

Country and bluegrass singer Rhonda Vincent, who is coming to Penn's Peak on March 22, will soon release a new album.

The album, "Only Me," is set for release on Jan. 28.

The oldies band Remember When will be doing a Valentines dinner dance at Penn's Peak on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Penn's Peak has announced its Valentine's concert for 2014.

The valentine's dinner dance is a perennial attraction at the Jim Thorpe area venue.

The oldies band, Remember When, will put on a dinner show on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. with the Remember When show at 7 p.m.

Reservations are required in advance and tickets went on sale today. The reservations can be placed through the Penn's Peak box office at 866-605-7325 or by calling Deb Biege at 610-826-9663.

TIMES NEWS FILE PHOTO Country singer Phil Vassar, who had a hit with "Just Another Day In Paradise" and who wrote "Little Red Rodeo," will be performing at Penn's Peak on Jan. 11. Tickets are still available for this concert.

A dozen new shows have been added in recent weeks to the 2014 concert lineup at Penn's Peak - just in time for Christmas gift-giving.

The concerts represent various genres of music including the sounds of the Grateful Dead (Dickie Betts and Great Southern), rock (Heart), metal (Queensryche), oldies (Happy Together Tour with the Turtles), and country (Don Williams).

For some of the concerts, tickets are already on sale.

Tickets go on sale Friday for concerts by Queensryche, Williams, and Mike DelGuidice and Big Shot, The Ultimate Billy Joel Experience.

Penn's Peak celebrated its 10th anniversary Sunday with rock and roll music coupled with dancing, food, and even a Chinese auction.

Hundreds attended the event at the Jim Thorpe venue, which featured free concerts by two groups: Clyde Barrow and the Legendary Barbusters and The 70s Rewind.

The 70s Rewind accented their performance with videos which included movie clips, commercials, and concert scenes.

The Chinese auction was staged to benefit the local chapter of Dream Come True, which grants wishes to terminally ill children.

The band America took a large Penn's Peak crowd back in time on Saturday night - back to the days of the Vietnam War; to the era when pop was tops.

Lead singers Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell put on an incredible show, singing the hits that made them famous, songs from their most recent project, and videos that accentuated their musical era.

It was about the fourth appearance at Penn's Peak for America, and like the previous concerts the auditorium was packed with fans of all ages.
