Dozens of Tamaqua Area Middle School students entertained classmates and family members during the annual talent show held recently in the school district auditorium.

Some of the talent consisted of vocal solos, dancing, flag and baton twirlers, comedy skits and others.

Christopher F. Czapla, principal, stated his appreciation to all the students, parents and staff who put the event together.

Czapla also expressed appreciations to the organizers.

BANGOR, Maine (AP) – Horror author Stephen King is stepping up to help struggling Maine residents buy heating oil.

The state is facing deep cuts to a federal heating oil assistance program.

The Maine native announced Tuesday that his foundation will work with the three radio stations he owns in the Bangor area to raise $140,000 to buy heating oil for low-income residents.

He's asking listeners to donate $70,000, and the foundation will double it.

The Little River Band with special guest Ambrosia will be performing at 8 p.m. Friday at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe. The band, originally from Australia, has had numerous hits including "Lonesome Loser." Admission prices are $34 and $29. Meanwhile, tonight at Penn's Peak, there's another Australian band on stage. The Australian Pink Floyd Show begins at 8 p.m. and features re-enactments from actual Pink Floyd concerts as well as blow-ups - including a kangaroo - and superb lighting effects.

The sound of the keys as passerbys marvel at the change of the leaves on the trees.

That combination figures to once again churn out a smash hit at the fourth annual Rock the Fall Festival, scheduled this weekend at Blue Mountain Ski Area in Lower Towamensing Township.

The two-day event will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, rain or shine. Admission and parking are free.
