Lehigh Twp. home damaged by fire

No one was injured after a fire broke out Thursday afternoon at a home in Lehigh Township.

Lehigh Township Fire Commissioner Rick Hildebrand said the initial call came in at 2:23 p.m. for a fire that broke out at the home at 4625 Steven Lane.

“Within a few minutes of that coming in, there was additional calls from the neighborhood saying the fire was coming from the roof,” Hildebrand said. “We had a fire in the second floor into the attic and there was actually flames penetrating through the roof.”

Hildebrand explained how firefighters attacked the fire.

“It was a two-story single home in a remote development,” he said. “We had to bring water in, tanker trucks; we had to pull the ceilings on the second floor to get into the attic space to extinguish it.”

Hildebrand said the fire was declared under control within about 20 minutes.

He said there was no one home at the time, nor were there any injuries.

Hildebrand said the cause of the fire is undetermined, and is pending investigation by state police fire marshals.

He said firefighters remained on scene for nearly three hours, and added that the overall damage to the home was moderate.

Hildebrand said also assisting at the scene were the Diamond Fire Company in Walnutport, Slatington Fire Department, Northampton Borough Fire Department, Laury’s Station Volunteer Fire Company, Klecknersville Rangers Volunteer Fire Co., Allen Township Fire Department, East Allen Township Fire Department, and Northampton Regional EMS.

“We had a plethora of neighboring departments that came out; daytimes can be challenging (because) you never know how much manpower you have,” he said. “(The damage) could have been severe or a total loss without an alarm system making notification; smoke detectors are very important.”
