Garage, vehicles destroyed in fire

A garage with two vehicles was destroyed in Middleport on Tuesday.

Firefighters arrived and found a two-car garage fully involved, Middleport Fire Chief Darren Borger said.

“It’s a total loss,” he said.

The one-alarm fire at 4 Shade St. was called into the Schuylkill County Communications Center at 3:48 p.m. Borger said the homeowner called it in. One vehicle was inside while the other outside the garage. He said about five propane tanks were outside and exploded. No one was injured.

The cause is undetermined. A monetary amount was not available, Borger said, adding the insurance company is investigating.

Borger said the fire was contained in about 45 minutes. Fire personnel remained on scene for about an hour longer.

Along with the Middleport Fire Company, the New Philadelphia, Brockton, Mary?D, Walker Township, Kaska, Palo Alto, Tamaqua and Cumbola fire companies were among those responding.
