West Penn hires two part-time secretaries

A pair of part-time secretaries have been hired in West Penn Township.

The township's board of supervisors Monday morning agreed to appoint Cameo Semasek as part-time police secretary, and Patricia Nothstein as part-time township secretary.Semasek was hired to work 24 hours a week at a salary of $10 an hour. After 90 days, her salary could increase to $11 per hour, supervisors said.Supervisors have said the part-time police secretary would help free up township police Chief Brian Johnson, as well as patrol officers.Johnson previously said the police department gets a lot of walk-in traffic, and handles about 100 phone calls per month.Nothstein was hired as a part-time secretary as needed, at a salary of $10 an hour. After 90 days, her salary could increase to $11 per hour, supervisors said.She will fill in for township secretary BobbiJean Muffley, who is out on disability leave.The board's action comes several weeks after it appointed Herb Woodring as a temporary secretary at the rate of $12.75 an hour while Muffley is out.Road departmentAlso on Monday, the board commended the township's road department for their work during the recent storm.Supervisor Tony Prudenti said the road crew and township roadmaster "went above and beyond" the call of duty.Board Chairman Jim Dean concurred."We really do appreciate what they did; you really went above and beyond," Dean said. "They did an excellent job; kudos to the guys."Annex pavingIn other action, the board agreed to have the township annex police building paved at a cost not to exceed $5,000.
