Two drivers facing DUI

Two drivers are facing drunken driving charges following separate incidents in Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Justin Smith, 28, of Tuscarora, was stopped at 8:10 p.m. on May 26 along State Road in Ryan Township. He showed signs of impairment and was taken to the barracks for a breath test. The test showed he was over the legal limit of 0.08 percent, troopers said. Charges were filed.The second arrest occurred on May 12 at 5:17 p.m. following a one-vehicle crash along Route 1005 (Mountain Road), at the intersection with Wood Street in North Union Township. Troopers said Kurtis Kristopher Dion, 21, of Bloomsburg, Columbia County, was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz northbound and negotiating a left turn when the car went onto the right shoulder, then back onto the road. The Cruz then crossed the road and entered the shoulder on the south side where it struck a dirt embankment causing it to roll over onto its roof.Troopers said Dion admitted consuming alcohol and marijuana prior to the crash. He also acknowledged there was marijuana in the vehicle. Dion failed field sobriety tests and was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital South, Pottsville, for a blood test. Charges are pending test results, troopers added.
