Jim Thorpe school board names new assistant principal

Jim Thorpe Area School District approved a new K-12 assistant principal at Monday’s board meeting.

Shawn Albert, previously a fifth-, seventh- and eighth-grade teacher at L.B. Morris, was unanimously voted into the position, with a salary of $66,000.“My goal is just to continue to build on the strong traditions at Jim Thorpe, particularly at L.B. Morris,” Albert said. “I’m excited to work with the administrative team.“I think we have a very good staff. I’m very excited to push on and achieve the goals we have as a district.”Albert has taken the position previously vacated by Shawn Kopp, who left to assume an administrative position in the Huntington Area School District early this month.“We’re excited to have Shawn come along. He’s been an asset to the school district and will continue to be so in an administrative capacity,” Superintendent Brian J. Gasper said.“He’s a great guy, and I’m sure he’s going to do very well for us.”Other business• Michael Jacobs was approved as a special-education teacherfor a salary of $49,100.• Johanna Tripler was approved for a Spanish teacher positionfor a salary of $44,100.• Paraprofessional positions were approved for Vicki Kistler, Emily Klados and Bobbie Hughes, each at $11 an hour.• Approval was granted to post positions for long-term substitute elementary/middle level mathematics and social studies teachers.• The resignation of paraprofessional Heather Formica was accepted.
