Reports of several brush fires flaring up along 248 and the adjacent railroad tracks brought crews to action Thursday afternoon.

Fire departments from Bowmanstown, Parryville, Aquashicola, Palmerton and East Penn were dispatched along with DCNR brush fire crews to fight the fires.

Fire Police from several communities were also dispatched for traffic control. One lane of Route 248 was closed as crews knocked down the fires.

The fires were started by a passing train.
