Tamaqua man faces drug charge

Tamaqua police have cited Cory Michael Whitley, 23, of 107 Washington St., Tamaqua, after an incident on Jan. 7.

Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of High Street after a security guard at the LCCC Morgan Center reported a suspicious vehicle. The car had been parked, with the engine running, for more than an hour. The caller said there were three occupants who appeared to be sleeping.The threesome were sleeping, with Whitley behind the steering wheel. One of the occupants was a juvenile who had been reported as missing on Jan. 6.As the trio began getting out of the car, officers noticed a gun and tactical vest in the back seat.The teen was placed in the back of a squad car, while Whitley was handcuffed and searched. Officers found a plastic baggie in an arm pocket of his shirt. The bag contained 20 yellow capsules, identified as Gabapentin, a prescription drug. Whitley admitted he does not have a prescription for the drug.The handgun was determined to be a BB gun.Whitley was charged with misbranding a prescription.The runaway was returned to his father.
