Two crashes investigated

State police at Lehighton reported on two crashes investigated by troopers recently.

A one-vehicle crash was reported at 12:47 p.m. Friday along Route 209 in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Leonard R. Beverly, 40, of Effort, was driving a 2001 Saturn SL2 southbound at a high rate of speed. Due to the speed, Beverly lost control of his car while negotiating a right-hand curve. The car crossed over the northbound lane as it began to rotate counterclockwise. The car then traveled onto the berm and hit an embankment with its front end. Upon impact the car rolled over as it continued southbound and came to rest on its roof facing east on the berm.Beverly, who was not wearing a seat belt, refused medical treatment. Damages were termed heavy to the vehicle, which was towed.Troopers cited Beverly for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.A hit-and-run crash was reported Thursdayalong Milton Lane near Shady Oak Drive in Ross Township, Monroe County. Troopers said a vehicle was driven northbound when the driver failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the road. The vehicle went onto the berm and struck a meter utility box. The driver then fled the scene.
