Blood test: Lansford man had almost twice legal limit

Coaldale police have filed charges against Andrew Taylor Schlegel, 29, of 209 Lansford Court, Lansford, after receiving results of blood tests taken on Aug. 16.

An officer was on patrol at 12:21 a.m. Aug. 16 when he spotted a 2002 Nissan Xterra being operated on Route 209.The vehicle was traveling east swerving within its travel lane, then crossing the fog and yellow center lines multiple times. The officer conducted a traffic stop and identified Schlegel as the driver.While speaking with the motorist the officer noted a strong odor of alcohol and several signs of possible intoxication. Schlegel admitted drinking five or six beers. He was given, and failed, three field sobriety tests.He was then taken to St. Luke's Hospital-Miner's Coaldale campus, for blood tests.Test results indicate he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.146 percent, almost twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.Charges include driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to drive on the right side of the roadway, failing to drive in a single traffic lane, careless driving and failure to meet lighting requirements (nonfunctioning side brake light).
