8 face drug charges after Tamaqua raid

Several people are facing drug charges following raids this morning in Tamaqua.

The charges were filed by officers of the Tamaqua Police Department.

Defendants who were formally arraigned as of press time are Kevin J. Tansley, 28; Elizabeth Tansley, 26; Francisco Aponte, 24; Joel T. Vermillion, 24, and Kayla Marie Leibowitz, 24.

District Judge Stephen J. Bayer set bail for the first four of the defendants at $50,000. All were committed to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of the bail.

Kevin J. Tansley of Tamaqua is facing charges of criminal attempt for manufacturing, delivery, or possession of illegal drugs; theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property.

Seven charges were filed against Elizabeth Tansley of Tamaqua. They include three counts of manufacturing or possession, one count of conspiracy, one count of possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of criminal use of communication facility.

Aponte, of Tamaqua, faces eight charges. They are four counts of manufacture or possession, two counts of possession, and two counts of criminal use of a communication facility.

Vermillion, of Tamaqua, is charged with two counts of manufacture or possession, one count of possession, and one count of criminal use of communication facility.

Leibowitz or Coaldale was charged with hindering in the raid.

The amount of bail set for Leibowitz was not immediately known.

Two suspects were already in custody.
