Effort man charged after Tamaqua stop

An Effort man was arrested by Tamaqua police after a vehicle stop on March 27.

Police stopped a gray Infiniti, which was traveling east on Broad Street, at 10:14 p.m., when a records check indicated the license plate was expired. Records also said the plate was registered to a Honda, not an Infiniti. The driver told the officer his name was Jose Gomez and offered an April 29, 1987, birth date. The Schuylkill County Communications Center was unable to find any record of such a name and birth date. The driver then offered the name of Jason Julio Barbosa, with a June 1984 birth date. Again, there was no record of any such person. The com center was able to find a record on a Joshua Barbosa of Effort, whose photo just happened to match the person sitting in the Infiniti.Barbosa admitted he lied about his name telling the officer he was getting ready to move to Florida and didn't want there to be any legal action in Pennsylvania that might hold him back.He also said he was in Tamaqua to sell the Infiniti.Barbosa was charged with using a fraudulent title registration, providing false identification to law enforcement, operating a vehicle without insurance, driving without a license and unauthorized use of a registration. The officer contacted the on duty district judge to arraign the defendant, but was told to issue a summons instead of taking him to prison.
