Family Promise of Carbon County aims to help the homeless families of the county.

Here are some facts about the organization since its inception in 2011.• Assists single parents and families with children.• Currently 10 families are waiting to get into Family Promise.• Helped a total of 31 families, which included 42 adults, 27 children ages 6-18, and 30 children birth to 5, over the last four years.• So far this year, 12 families have come through Family Promise.• In 2013, 77 percent of graduated families secured permanent housing and employment.• Average length of stay is 90 days.• Families look for jobs and housing while at the day center in Lehighton, and must take classes to help with their situation.• Currently 11 churches act as hosts to families one week at a time.• It costs $38 for each adult intake, including background checks and drug testing.• It costs $30 a day for trips to and from the churches where the families sleep.• Average daily cost for day center operations is $35.Facts about homelessness in Carbon County:• Percentages of economically disadvantaged children in the school districts range from 37.3 percent to 65.2 percent.• Shepherd House Food Pantry distributed over 27,000 meals in August.• In 2012, 10.3 percent of Carbon County's population was under the poverty line.
