Lansford officer Shubeck gets probation

Lansford police officer Robert J. Shubeck, 40, of Nesquehoning, was sentenced to 36 months probation in Carbon County court on Tuesday on a charge of corruption of a minor.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II imposed the sentence. Shubeck previously pleaded guilty to the charge. However, in a plea bargain with the state Attorney General's office, charges relateing to an alleged sexual relationship he had with a teenage boy were not part of the plea agreement.

The Attorney General's office took over the prosecution of the case at the request of then District Attorney Gary F. Dobias. Dobias recused his office from prosecuting the case, citing a conflict of interest since his office regularly deals with the Lansford Police Department in the prosecution of criminal cases.

Shubeck was originally charged with five criminal counts. He admitted supplying alcohol to the minor teen. The section of the corruption charge that alleged to sexual activity and viewing pornogrpahy with the teen was dropped in the plea bargain.

Shubeck was suspended from his position by Lansford council in December 2013.
