Mr. and Mrs. Gene S. Gerhard of Weatherly, recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They were married on Sept. 24, 1949.

Mrs. Gerhard is the former Mary Katherine Hauze, daughter of the late Russell and Martha (Brisel) Hauze.She is a former employee of the old Carbon County Home (Poor House), Weatherly.Her husband was born and raised in Packer Township, a son of the late Samuel Oliver and Hattie Elizabeth (Smith) Gerhard. He started working on the family farm and later was a laborer for Packer TownshipMr. Gerhard graduated from Weatherly High School on May 28, 1946, and on June 5 of that year was already in the Navy. He served for two years.He later worked for the former Lehigh Valley Railroad and was a timberman for his brother, Marshall Gerhard, an area lumberman.Mr. Gerhard was employed by the former Tung Sol plant, Weatherly, for 16 1/2 years, before taking a job with the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company, where he retired in 1992 as a line maintenance inspector after 25 years of service.The couple has six children, Gene David, Muriel Jo Scalise, Amy Lynn Strenshick, Mary Beth Fortwangler, Jeff Wayne and Russell Samuel.They also have 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
