Another missed opportunity

It's happened so many times in my life; I didn't think of what I should have said until ten minutes after I should have said it.

This past Sunday, I had the honor of escorting my father, Bob Andrews, to the podium for his induction into the Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame. A great ceremony, by the way. My Dad gave his humbly brief acceptance speech, thanking everyone who helped him along the way. And that's when I should have said it.I should have said:"Excuse me, Mister Emcee. Wait Dad. I think we have a little time left. You know, when we were growing up, my Dad used to tell us to let our actions on the playing field do all of our talking. I've tried to live my life that way and we can see he still does, too. We'd like to thank someone else, my mother Shirley his wife of fifty years. She started this process. Shortly before she died, she said Dad should be in the Hall of Fame. So we went through his records and drawers of medals and shelves of trophies and prepared the packet. And here we are. Thanks, Mom."That's what I should have said.Bill (Brian) AndrewsAlexandria, Virginia
