Man admits stealing copper pipes

A Lehighton man has been charged with burglary after he admitted stealing copper pipes to sell so he could buy heroin.

On April 29, Mahoning Township police received a report of a burglary at a residence that was listed for sale by the owner on Ashtown Drive. The owner, who lives in the area, observed an unauthorized person entering the home. The owner confronted the male, who then fled in a dark-colored Jeep.The owner checked the home and found that the copper piping had been cut out of the home. With the help of Facebook and a photo lineup, the owner was able to identify the person he had seen inside the home as Aaron Scott Jr. of Lehighton.Neighboring police departments were provided the identification and requested to watch for Scott, who was located later that night by officers from Lehighton, Franklin Township and Mahoning.During an interview with police, Scott admitted being a heroin user and said he was going to steal the copper and split the money with another person. Aaron identified this other person to police as "Tree."Scott has been charged with burglary, criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy-burglary, criminal conspiracy-criminal trespass, all felonies, and criminal attempt-theft, criminal conspiracy-criminal attempt theft, criminal mischief, and criminal conspiracy-criminal mischief, all misdemeanors.Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact Mahoning Township Police.Scott remains in Carbon County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
