Lehighton school plans closing celebration

Students, staff and parishioners of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School, Lehighton, will say goodbye to the beloved school on Friday, June 13, during closing ceremonies and a celebration picnic.

Mass will be held at 8 a.m. and dismissal will be at 10 a.m. The picnic will follow.Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided by the PTO.Everyone is invited to bring a covered dish or a goodie to share.The school will be open for all to linger and share memories.As part of the day's celebration, there will be an opening of the time capsule buried by the Class of 2003.Ss. Peter and Paul School is closing after results of a nearyearlong study revealed that the school could not meet financial and enrollment challenges. Only 86 students were enrolled in the school, and parents noted that 20 more were needed to give the school the possibility of remaining open.The school opened on Feb. 9, 1925.
