Luna Rossa restaurant burns

Fire broke out just before 4:30 this morning at a popular restaurant in Polk Township.

When firefighters arrived at the Luna Rossa Caffe and Grill in Polk Township, flames were pouring out the windowd in the center of the restaurant.

The restaurant is leveled.

Luna Rossa, a fine dining Italian and Greek restaurant along Route 209 in Gilbert, was an 11,000-square-foot wood frame structure boasted of having three bars, a dance floor and a 3,500 square-foot-deck to the rear of the business.

Firefighters from Monroe, Carbon and other counties were called to the scene to assist.

Tankers filled up at three sites near the restaurant: the fire station in Polk Township, Pleasant Valley Elementary Center and Mill Pond behind Edgewood Service Center.

The property has been listed for sale for the past year.

Route 209 is closed from Burger Hollow Road to Gilbert Road.

The Salvation Army canteen has been called to the scene to provide refreshments for firefighters.
