Another exciting Egg Olympics

Well, hello, sports fans. This is your Easter Bunny, "Hop" Costas, and my co-host and springtime chick, "Peeps" Carillo. We are so excited to be your announcers here today for the 2014 Egg Olympics being held here in Janet Smith's backyard in Kunkletown.

Yes, Hop. It's a perfect spring day, sunny and bright and about 57 degrees.Peeps, let's go over the list of Olympians we're going to see today. I understand we have three returning Olympians and three new ones this year. That's right, Hop. Returning this year are sisters Jennie Rose and Abby Huber. Both are fierce competitors yet each other's most avid cheerleaders. Their mother, Diane, is also competing, and she says, "It's every woman for herself." Sounds a bit harsh, but hey, that's what the Egg Olympics are all about: the competition. Not a love fest. George and Zach will not be returning to the Egg Olympics this year. George couldn't be here because of his job.Is it true, Peeps, that Zach gave up the Egg Olympics this year for love? That's right, Hop. He chose to have Easter dinner with his girlfriend, Jenna, and her family instead of competing this year. So, Peeps, who are the new athletes this year?Hop, we have Brandon Serfass. He's in top physical condition and the boyfriend of Jennie Rose. And good-looking, I might add. We also have a husband and wife competing this year, Linda and Harry Koehler. It's their first year in the Egg Olympics. They are the oldest Olympians here today. It's been rumored that Harry is in great physical condition. Linda ... not so much. So it should be very interesting to see how they fare against their younger counterparts. Thanks, Peeps. Well, I see we're about to begin. For those of you who are new to the Egg Olympics, it's important for you to know that to try to make this an even playing field. All Olympians are required to eat a big Easter dinner before the events. This makes them all sluggish and sleepy. I understand that this year's meal was extremely delicious, so many of the athletes overindulged. I can't wait to see the repercussions that will have on some of them.Hee hee hee. Me either, Hop. OK. Here we go with the first of five events, the Spoon & Egg Relay. The first person of the team carries an egg on a spoon to a designated end line, turn and return, then passes the spoon and egg to the partner, who must complete the relay. If the egg falls off the spoon, the team is eliminated.Oops, Peeps, there goes the first casualty. Brandon drops the egg. I think it may have even cracked.Hop, it looks like the Jennie Rose and Abby team wins this event. On to the next, which is the Egg Toss. The Diane and Harry team wins this competition hands down. Ahhhh, and there goes another cracked egg.OK, Peeps, we've moved down field for the Egg Roll event. This is to see who can roll their egg the farthest without resulting in any cracks. It takes a lot of finesse.Ohhhh, Hop! Just look at that Harry! He literally threw that egg, and it just keeps rolling and rolling. He's going to be the man to beat in this event!Yes, Peeps, he's just an amazing athlete. Even his competitors are impressed, and a bit envious of his prowess. And he's such a cutie pie, too, Hop.Well, that's just your opinion, Peeps.Hop, this next event is the Egg Rolling Down the Water Spout. Brandon has just climbed 15 feet up a Chestnut tree and will drop each of the athletes' eggs down the spout.Brandon is certainly agile. Let's see how this plays out, Peeps.Well, Hop, it looks like that yummy Harry wins this event also. Poor Linda. Her egg didn't even roll out of the spouting. She'll receive no points for this event. As we say in the business, so sad, too bad.Last but not least is the Egg Obstacle Race, a timed event. Each athlete must carry an egg on a spoon while trying to avoid obstacles. And, Peeps, it looks like Jennie Rose is the speediest one in this event and clearly the winner. Surprisingly, Linda places fifth out of the six spots, with her sister coming in last. The judges are tallying up the results, Hop.And Harry takes the gold! Harry takes the gold! I can't believe it! The oldest competitor wins the gold! Oh man, Peeps, this is really big!Wow, Hop, this has just been such an exciting Egg Olympics! We definitely have a new champion. As the winners of the gold, silver and bronze make their way over to the staging area, I can't help but be proud of these fine athletes. This is always the moment that gets me very emotional.Harry stands on a folding chair, followed by Jennie Rose on a kiddie chair and Brandon takes home the bronze. Listen now as we all join in singing "The Star-Spangled Banner." Oh man, Peeps, I'm tearing up here.Sniff, sniff. I know, Hop. Oh look, the winners are eating their medals. I believe they're Snickers, America's favorite candy bar. How appropriate.Peeps, I do believe that's the end of another Easter Egg Olympics. All that's left now is the closing ceremony. It will take place in Janet's kitchen. I understand the Olympians and their families will partake in that time-worn tradition of devouring leftovers after playing any kind of games. There's even delicious brownie pizza and coconut cake for dessert. Peeps, where are you running off to?Harry! Harry! Can I have your autograph, please? Oh, and could you smile for a selfie with me?
