Two girls seriously injured

Two teenage girls from Lehighton were injured Sunday when involved in a crash with an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in Towamensing Township. According to state police at Lehighton a 15-year-old was operating the ATV southbound on Station Street (TR437) about 11:45 a.m. when it left the road on the west berm. The ATV rolled over, ejecting the driver and her 14-year-old passenger. The ATV continued to travel about five feet down an embankment into a drainage ditch, where it flipped over and landed on top of the two girls. Both were transported by Lehighton ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Troopers said the investigation into the crash is continuing. Responding were Towamensing Township Fire Company of Trachsville, and Palmerton ambulance.
