IU student facing assault count

A student at the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 school in Marlin, Norwegian Township, is facing a felony count of aggravated assault following an incident near the school.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said a 16-year-old male from Pottsville walked out of the school on July 2 about 1 p.m. and proceeded to Maple Avenue, east of the intersection with Third Street. An employee at the school, Carl A. Stine, 39, of Ringtown, physically restrained the teen. During the altercation the teen grabbed Stine's shirt near the collar with his right hand, and subsequently attempted to choke, bite and kick the victim during the struggle. Stine fell to the road surface, troopers said, causing injuries to both knees and his left elbow.
